After a good sleep, Cub woke up with a proper hacking cough this morning. Even Mally gave him the strangest look, as if she was trying to work out what on earth that noise was coming from him! 🐾

Sadly, that headache is still looming over him and he’s feeling pretty fed up with it all today. 😔

Something as simple as a winter cold can be so much more than just a cold for someone living with Chiari. The coughing and sneezing create extra pressure, which in turn can trigger even more headaches. And that added pressure affects Cub’s swallowing even more than usual, making an already difficult situation that bit harder. 😔💔

It’s the things so many of us take for granted that can make everyday illnesses so much harder for Cub. What might be a simple sniffle for someone else can have a much bigger impact on him.

I just wish I could fix it all for him. There’s nothing worse than watching your child struggle and feeling helpless because you can’t take it away. I’d take every bit of it on myself in a heartbeat if I could. ❤️

Hopefully, the cough and cold will soon start to ease and that headache will finally give him a break. He really has had enough now, and I just want my happy Cub back. ❤️😔

Gosh, what a week it’s been! 🙈

Cub is definitely feeling a bit better, although he’s still got the sore throat, snotty nose and headache hanging around. I’m hoping we’ve finally turned a corner and he’s over the worst of it now 🤞

He’s been sleeping so much more than usual too, which is a pretty good sign because Cub and sleep aren’t exactly the best of friends 😂 His body obviously needs the extra rest right now, so we’re taking things nice and easy.

Fern and Mally have been absolute stars while our usual routines have gone completely out of the window. They’ve been so patient with the lack of adventures and the change of pace, although I’m sure Mally is wondering when normal service will resume! 😂🐾

Fingers crossed we’re all heading in the right direction now and we can get back to a bit of normality soon! ❤️

Mally is still desperately trying to teach Noodles how to play tug 🤣 She’s giving it her absolute best shot.

Cub is still battling the lurgy. He was much better in himself yesterday, but that horrible headache just won’t budge. 😔

Then last night he got a bit panicky because his nose was so blocked that he felt like he couldn’t breathe properly. We have to be extra careful when Cub is snotty as it affects his swallowing more than usual, which makes everything that little bit harder.

I think his riding lesson today is definitely out of the question, so it looks like another quiet day of recovering and hopefully getting that headache shifted.

Fingers crossed he starts feeling more like himself soon 🤞🏻❤️

You know Cub’s poorly when he sleeps!! 🥺

Yesterday morning after being sick, he went back to bed and didn’t wake up until 4.30pm 😳 Totally unheard of for him!

We’ve been keeping him topped up with medicine and he’s clammy, snotty and generally just very grotty. The worst part of it all seems to be the headache, poor thing 😔

Ironically, his Halloween costume arrived from Amazon yesterday… a plague doctor costume 🤣 And of course, he somehow found the strength to get up and try it on. Think he might actually need the plague doctor for himself at this rate! 🙈

So we’ll take today easy, keep him topped up and just see how it pans out ❤️

Looking for someone to play tug with 🙄

Mam isn’t interested. I’ve tried producing my tuggy countless times… I’ve put it on the table, on her lap, at her feet, on the sofa, waved it around in her face… but nope, apparently Mam has better things to do 🤨

Fern is just boring. She’s far too busy being a good dog and doing her morning jobs 🙄

Moss… well, we had a little falling out yesterday and he hasn’t come anywhere near me since, so he’s obviously still sulking 🙈

Which leaves Noodles.

And after giving it a good go, I can confirm she is absolutely rubbish at tug of war 🤦‍♀️

Honestly, it’s like living with a bunch of people who have forgotten the whole point of having fun.

One poorly Cub this morning 🥺

He walked into the bedroom and came over to tell me something, but before he could get the words out he was sick 🤢

He then told me that when he stood up his legs went all wobbly and he felt really dizzy too. Thankfully he’s feeling much better now that he’s been sick, but it’s clearly taken it out of him, so he’s gone back to bed for a bit.

Hopefully a little rest will have him feeling more like himself soon 💙🙏

While we were deep in our adventure today, Cub came across an interesting-looking glass bottle half-filled with mud. It looked really old, so naturally we brought it home to see if we could find out a bit more about it 🔎

After a bit of research, we discovered it was a Harlene for the Hair bottle, dating from around 1890–1915. Quite how it ended up in the middle of the woodland is anyone’s guess!

Harlene for the Hair was marketed as a bit of a miracle potion, claiming to restore baldness, stop grey hair (I need me some of that! 😂) and help prevent scurf, which we now know as dandruff.

We also found out what was actually in it. It was mostly water, around 93%, with alcohol, a little borax and a tiny amount of ammonia, along with traces of glycerin and perfume.

So after all those grand claims, it turns out the magic potion was mostly water! 😂

It’s amazing what you can stumble across when you’re out exploring, and even better when it leads to a little history detective work when you get home. 🕵️‍♂️📚

Cub has been working hard on his WW2 project today 📚

He’s made his own ration books and learnt what the different coloured books meant, then researched why children were evacuated during the war and what life was like for them.

After all that concentrating, it was time to get out and about, so we headed off on a walk in search of some WW2 building remains 👀

It’s so important for Cub to have plenty of movement breaks throughout the day. Sitting still and concentrating for long periods definitely doesn’t come easy for him, so mixing up the learning with plenty of getting out and about works much better for Cub 😊

And of course, getting out to explore the remains of WW2 buildings is a much more exciting way to learn about history than sitting at a desk all day, the girls are always up for a good adventure too! 🪖

The TAPpy family 🐾🐾

Sophie and Petro.

We have had a wonderful week away in Cornwall with lots of walking and dips in the sea. Petro has absolutely loved it, just as much as Sophie.
I think he even has the holiday blues since returning home.
As usual he was such a good boy, and got lots of attention and admiration from passers by, such a handsome boy 💙
