Members of the Rotary Club of Andover gathered recently for their Christmas party. It was well attended by 40 people, including wives and prospective members, and held at The Lion at Clanville, Rotary’s regular meeting place, where an excellent meal was served and enjoyed by all.

The club was joined by a contingent of Andover Choral Society who led a session of singing, encouraging some ‘game’ members of Rotary to stand up and be counted, as well as others who were rather unaccustomed to such pursuits to take part as well.

Sue Woodley and Frances Lynn as practised singers led the way while John Barlow, Ian Jeffrey, Mark, and Chris Lynn, the current year’s president, all put their reputations on the line in order to put on a rousing show. Although all the diners were given carol sheets, some, it was noted, performed less enthusiastically than others. Nevertheless, the evening was enjoyed by all.

This morning, the Rotary Club of Andover was delighted to organise a Sponsored Dog Walk through Harewood Forest in support of 39 students from Harrow Way School, who are raising funds for their upcoming trip to Zanzibar. During their visit, the students will be helping out at a school for disadvantaged children — a truly inspiring cause! 💛

It was a bright and sunny morning, perfect for walking, and we were thrilled to have around 40 enthusiastic walkers (and plenty of wagging tails!) take part in a walk of between 6 and 9 miles.

Everyone agreed it was a fantastic event — full of smiles, laughter, and a few tired feet and paws by the end! 🦶🐶

A huge thank you to everyone who joined in, supported, and donated — your efforts will make a real difference. 🌍💙

Earlier this week the Rotary Club of Andover and Anton Rotary Club hosted a charity showcase evening held at the Masonic Hall in Andover. The evening was a great success with 10 charities attending including Andover Community Engage, Andover Trees United, Enham Trust, Andover Young Carers, Unity, Ican, Andover Mind, Yellow Brick Road Protect, Andover Coral Society and Finding Freedom from Abuse. The evening gave these charities the opportunity to promote their good causes. The evening was rounded off by guest speaker and magician Michael King who was thoroughly entertaining. Thank you to everyone who attended.

Andover Rotary Club recently visited Origin Farm (also known as the Origin Training Project), a small farming charity near Fullerton, which provides adults with special needs an opportunity to develop life skills, build friendships and care for animals. The project focuses on farming activities, skills fulfilment, and community involvement, with volunteers contributing to the work on the land. The farm also hosts open days and events, such as fetes, in order to involve the wider community and to raise funds.

One of the resident helpers had just lost her dog after 15 years and was heartbroken, so Rotary members rallied round and took over five dogs of various breeds that did not need walking or feeding. She fell in love with the toy that looked most like her deceased poodle and she was so grateful.

The Rotary Club of Andover was formed 76 years ago to help raise significant amounts of money for many charities but it also helps people and small charities with other needs, large or small, like this one. More helpers of all ages are needed to help with events and kind gestures that benefit both individuals and community organisations.

If you have some time to spare you could help by becoming a ‘Friend of Rotary’. There is no cost but just help when you like or when you can.

Please phone or email for a coffee and a chat about how much you would like to help: [email protected] or 01264 396511.

On Sunday 7 September, Andover Rotary held a fund-raising event for Uke@Heart, a local ukulele band who have been so helpful before in raising money for good local causes. Taking place at Andover Community Engage (ACE), the new charity in Bridge Street, who kindly both allowed our Club to use their premises and made the tea. The occasion lasted from 2.30 till 5 pm and featured the brilliant young singer Richard Harris who performed for 45 minutes and was very well received. This was followed by a superb cream tea, after which the band Uke@Heart provided another stirring session which got everybody singing. A grand total of £600 was raised for the band.
