Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management - CIEEM We are the leading professional membership body representing and supporting ecologists and environmen

CIEEM is the leading professional membership body representing and supporting ecologists and environmental managers in the UK, Ireland and abroad. Our Vision is of a society which values the natural environment and recognises the contribution of professional ecologists and environmental managers to its conservation. Established in 1991 and receiving our Royal Charter in 2013, we have members drawn

from across the employment sectors including local authorities, government agencies, NGOs, environmental consultancy, academia and industry. The diversity of our membership is our greatest strength, enabling us to take an integrated and holistic approach to furthering the management and enhancement of biodiversity and the ecological processes essential to a fully functional biosphere. With a growing membership and an increasingly influential voice we are transforming the professionalism of the sector, just as our members are transforming understanding of, and attitudes towards, protecting and enhancing our natural environment. By working together, we believe we can make a difference, leading to a world rich in biodiversity for the benefit of us all, now and in the future.

From understanding where your money is invested to knowing the kinds of questions you can ask your provider, this blog outlines simple but powerful actions that could help align your pension with a net-zero future.

As co-hosts of blanket bogs alongside John Muir Trust, we're proud to welcome the new MSP for Blanket Bogs, David Green MSP.

The Nature Champions initiative by Scottish Environment LINK encourages Members of the Scottish Parliament to champion threatened species and priority habitats, raising awareness and promoting action to restore and safeguard Scotland’s environment.

Blanket bogs are an extraordinary Priority Habitat. They deliver vital ecosystem services, including carbon sequestration and flood management, support an array of species. However they remain under significant threat, with only 20% of the UK's blanket bogs in a natural or semi-natural state.

To support practitioners delivering on-the-ground restoration, CIEEM has published guidance on best practice in bog restoration: https://cieem.net/resource/habitats-bogs-good-practice-guidance-for-ecological-restoration/

🚨 Time is running out to have your say on brownfield BNG exemptions.

This consultation is significant - the proposals could have real consequences for nature, climate resilience, and the quality of life in communities across England.

On the consultation, CIEEM's CEO Sally Hayns told Business Green:
''These exemptions could mean homes built in deprived communities lack the green infrastructure to make them liveable as the climate changes [...] 2.5 hectare exemption isn't just bad for the environment, it risks undermining the government's own housing ambition of safe and decent homes for all.''

This issue is gaining serious attention, with coverage from ENDS Report (Catherine Early), Inside Housing (Lara Bowman), and Inside Ecology highlighting just how significant these proposals are.

Your voice matters. Read our full response below and remember to use your own words in your response - consultations like this are influenced by the volume and strength of responses.

⏰ Deadline: TOMORROW Wednesday 10 June.
