The legacy of Karbala did not end on the plains of Karbala.

It lives on through every act of service, every life uplifted, and every drop of water provided to those in need.

This Muharram, honour Imam Hussain (AS), Hazrat Abbas (AS) and their companions by helping provide clean water to communities around the world.

💧 Give water in the name of the thirsty.

Today, on World Refugee Day, we stand in solidarity with and recognise a simple truth:

Every mother deserves a safe pregnancy - no matter where she lives.

For Hazara refugee mothers living in Nairobi, displacement has meant leaving behind homes, livelihoods, support networks and the familiarity of life in Afghanistan. Yet despite these challenges, they continue to care for their children, build resilience and look towards the future with hope.

At The Lady Fatemah Trust, we believe that supporting mothers means strengthening families and communities. Through healthcare, education, wellbeing support and opportunities for self-reliance, we are helping refugee families rebuild their lives with dignity.

Because every mother deserves safety.
Because every child deserves opportunity.
Because every family deserves hope.

A refugee is not a label.

A refugee is a mother rebuilding her family.

A child pursuing an education.

A young person discovering their potential.

A community determined to create a better future.

Through our partnership with the Afghan Hazara refugee community in Nairobi, we’ve seen what becomes possible when people are given opportunity, support and dignity.

From classrooms and community programmes to sporting achievements on international stages, this work is helping families move beyond survival and towards self-reliance.

This we celebrate their resilience and stand alongside them as they continue to build their future.

Resilience is not simply enduring hardship.

It is finding the strength to keep moving forward, and helping others do the same.

As part of our Muharram series, Karbala Inspires Resilience, we share the story of Khadija from Afghanistan.

Despite the challenges around her, Khadija remained committed to her education and personal growth. Through determination, support and opportunity, she continued her studies, grew in confidence and developed new skills.

Today, she is not only building a brighter future for herself, but using her experience to support other women, mothers, students and vulnerable families in her community.

This is the ripple effect of empowerment.

At The Lady Fatemah Trust, mental wellbeing and capacity building are woven throughout our work because lasting change happens when people are given the confidence, knowledge and support to thrive.

Inspired by the resilience of Karbala, we continue to invest in people, helping them rebuild confidence, strengthen wellbeing and create opportunities for themselves and those around them.

As one Islamic year ends and another begins, we remember Imam Hussain (as), his family and companions, and the values they gave everything to defend: faith, dignity, compassion and service to others.

More than 1,400 years later, the thirst of Karbala still calls us to act.

Today, millions continue to thirst:

💧 For clean water
🤲 For dignity
🩺 For safe beginnings
📚 For opportunity
❤️ For healing

At The Lady Fatemah Trust, we respond to these forms of thirst through long-term programmes that restore dignity, strengthen families and transform communities.

From clean water systems in Iraq, Tanzania and Gaza, to empowering mothers through Mothernomics™, supporting maternal health, expanding access to education, and strengthening mental wellbeing, your support helps create lasting change.

This Muharram, honour the legacy of Karbala through action.

⏰ One Hour. One Day. One Week.

This Muharram, we’re asking you to dedicate the equivalent of one hour, one day, or one month of your earnings in the name of Imam Hussain (AS).

In this powerful reminder, .jaafarmilani reflects on how even a small sacrifice from us can create lasting change for families facing poverty and food insecurity.

Through sustainable farming initiatives, families can gain the tools, training, and resources needed to grow their own food, generate income, and build a future with dignity. Rather than providing temporary relief, these projects help communities work towards long-term self-sufficiency and resilience.

The message of Imam Hussain (a) continues to inspire us to stand with those in need and to turn our faith into action.

This Muharram, let your work become a means of sustaining a family, strengthening a community, and creating a lasting legacy of impact.

As the Islamic year draws to a close, it’s a moment to reflect on the blessings Allah (swt) has given us and the responsibilities we carry towards others.

If your Zakat or Khums is still outstanding, now is the time to fulfil this important obligation. Through your giving, families can access clean water, mothers can rebuild their livelihoods, children can receive an education, and communities can move towards a brighter future.

Our Khums Calculator makes it simple to work out what’s due and give with confidence.

This Eid al-Ghadir, children and widowed mothers in Kabul celebrated with new clothes and joyful smiles.

What makes these garments special is that they were lovingly stitched by widowed mothers from the same community through the Lady Fatemah Trust’s Mothernomics (MOM) programme.

A beautiful reminder that when we invest in people, we create dignity, opportunity and hope that reaches far beyond a single day of celebration.

Eid al-Ghadir Mubarak

Today we remember the historic declaration at Ghadeer Khumm and reflect on the legacy of leadership, responsibility and service embodied by Imam Ali (as).

For millions of pilgrims visiting the holy shrines in Najaf, Karbala and soon Kadhimiyah, access to cold, clean water is more than hospitality, it is an act of devotion.

Through our partnership with the Jaffer Family Foundation, The Lady Fatemah Trust helps provide up to 8 million litres of pure, chilled water every day, ensuring pilgrims can perform their ziyarat safely, comfortably and with dignity.

This same commitment to serving humanity continues through our water projects around the world, bringing clean water to communities that need it most.

May Allah (swt) accept our efforts, strengthen our service to others, and allow us all to carry forward the values of justice, compassion and devotion exemplified by Imam Ali (as).
