An enormous thank you to all of our Steering Group members who joined us for the first meeting of the Intergenerational Engagement Standards for Care Homes Steering Group.

It was fantastic to bring together such a passionate and knowledgeable group of people, all committed to strengthening and promoting intergenerational activities within care homes.

We were particularly encouraged by the enthusiasm shown during the breakout discussions, where members explored opportunities, challenges, and priorities for the future development of Intergenerational Standards for Care Homes.

This is an exciting first step in what we hope will be a collaborative and impactful journey.

Special thanks to Hallmark Foundation for their support.

πŸ’› Loneliness Awareness Week 2026 πŸ’›

This Loneliness Awareness Week, NAPA is encouraging everyone to recognise the importance of connection, belonging and meaningful relationships.

Loneliness can affect anyone, but small moments of connection can have a big impact on wellbeing. Meaningful activity helps people build relationships, maintain confidence and feel part of their community.

Here are a few simple activity ideas:

πŸ’¬ Conversation CafΓ© – chat over tea and cake using discussion prompts.

πŸ“Έ Memory Sharing – share photographs, keepsakes and the stories behind them.

🎡 Music and Memories – use favourite songs to spark conversation and reminiscence.

🌱 Gardening Together – plant flowers or herbs whilst enjoying social connection.

βœ‰οΈ Kindness Connections – make cards or write messages to friends, neighbours or local groups.

🎲 Games and Quizzes – encourage laughter, teamwork and friendship.

At NAPA, we believe meaningful engagement is about creating opportunities for people to connect, contribute and feel valued.

How will you be marking Loneliness Awareness Week? We'd love to hear your ideas.

We were delighted to attend the APPG on Loneliness and Connected Communities roundtable on social care this week and to contribute to such an important discussion.

It was a valuable opportunity to share NAPA's work in co-producing the first Standards of Practice for Intergenerational Engagement in Care Homes and to explore the role that meaningful relationships and community connections play in reducing loneliness and improving wellbeing.

The discussion reinforced the importance of person-centred approaches, strong partnerships and sustainable models of intergenerational practice.

We look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with partners across the sector to ensure these standards provide an enabling framework for high-quality, meaningful engagement across generations.

What Makes a Strong Award Nomination?

Thinking about submitting a nomination for the National Activity Awards 2027? πŸ†
A strong nomination really helps bring the story to life for our judges.

When completing your nomination, try to include:

Clear Examples - Share specific examples of activities, projects or approaches that demonstrate the impact of the work. Real examples help bring the nomination to life.

The Difference Made - Tell us about the outcomes. How has this improved wellbeing, engagement, confidence, connection or quality of life for the people supported?

Personal Stories and Feedback - Quotes, comments or feedback from individuals, families, colleagues or professionals can help demonstrate the real impact of the work.

Photos and Supporting Evidence - Photos, posters, newsletters, activity plans or examples of work can all help support your nomination and give judges a fuller picture.

Creativity and Innovation - What makes this person, team or project stand out? Tell us about any creative ideas, unique approaches or challenges overcome.

Detail Matters
Short nominations with only a few lines can make it difficult for the judging panel to fully understand the work being recognised. Taking time to provide detailed information really helps your nomination stand out.

Keep It Authentic
You do not need to use formal language or complicated wording. Honest, passionate and genuine nominations are often the most powerful.

Every nomination submitted helps us celebrate the incredible work happening across the sector and we encourage you to share as much information as possible.

We can’t wait to celebrate the incredible people, teams and organisations making a difference across the sector πŸ’œ

πŸ’™ Learning Disability Week 2026: Do You See Me? πŸ’™

In her latest blog for Learning Disability Week, NAPA CEO Hilary Woodhead explores this year's powerful theme, "Do You See Me?" and reflects on why co-production is at the heart of meaningful activity and engagement.

Meaningful activity doesn't start with a timetable or an activity programme. It starts with listening. It starts with understanding what matters to someone and recognising that they are the expert in their own life.

Hilary highlights how working alongside people with learning disabilities, rather than making assumptions about what they may want or need, can unlock opportunities, reveal talents and create truly person-centred experiences.

From gardening projects and photography exhibitions to storytelling, community involvement and creative expression, the blog celebrates what can happen when people are given the opportunity to shape the activities and experiences around them.

This Learning Disability Week, let's move beyond doing things for people and focus on creating opportunities with people.

Because everyone deserves to be seen, heard, valued and included.

πŸ’™ Men's Health Week: Looking After the Whole You πŸ’™

In his latest blog for NAPA, Communications and Marketing Assistant Mike Butler reflects on completing the Birmingham Half Marathon and what it taught him about health, resilience and wellbeing.

While the race itself was 13.1 miles, the real journey was everything that came before it. Early mornings, challenging training days, motivation dips and moments where life and training had to be balanced together.

Mike explores how the experience highlighted something we often overlook, that mental and physical wellbeing are deeply connected and cannot be separated.

The blog also reflects on how meaningful activity plays a vital role in supporting the whole person. From walking groups and gardening projects to creative activities and community involvement, these experiences support movement, connection, purpose and confidence all at once.

This Men's Health Week, the message is simple. Looking after health means looking after the whole person.

πŸ’™ Our minds matter
πŸ’™ Our bodies matter
πŸ’™ Meaningful activity matters
