AWARD-WINNING ‘ROOM TO BREATHE’ GARDEN OFFICIALLY OPENS IN ITS NEW HOME AT AMERSHAM HOSPITAL
The Countess Howe, His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire and Nicola Gilham, Chair of Buckinghamshire Healthcare Charity (BHC), joined together on Wednesday (6th March) to officially open Amersham Hospital’s award-winning new Room to Breathe Hospital Garden.
Supported by Buckinghamshire Healthcare Charity, the stunning 2025 RHS Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medal-winning garden has been given a new home, where it will continue to provide a permanent wellbeing sanctuary for patients, visitors, and staff to enjoy.
Created by designers Jen Donnelly Garden Design and Catherine Gibbon Garden Design, the garden was originally designed for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in support of the Tuberous Sclerosis Association (TSA) and draws inspiration from Jen’s experience waiting in hospital, as her son, who has Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC), underwent brain surgery.
Commenting on her gold medal, Jen said: “We still pinch ourselves at being RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2025 Gold Medallists at our debut show. The experience was incredibly special, made even more memorable by the wonderful support and encouragement of family and friends.”
Catherine added: “Relocating our garden to Amersham Hospital gives the project an even deeper meaning. We’re delighted to know that patients, families, and staff are already finding comfort in the space, somewhere to reflect and recharge.”
Commenting on the official opening and relocation of the garden, Buckinghamshire Healthcare Charity CEO, Karen Shardlow, said: “On behalf of everyone involved in this incredible project, I’d firstly like to thank The Countess Howe, His Majesty's Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire and Nicola Gilham, Chair of Buckinghamshire Healthcare Charity, who all performed the ceremonial ribbon cutting last week. We were honoured to have them in attendance as our guests on the day.”
She added: "Huge thanks to everyone involved—the talented garden designers Jen Donnelly and Catherine Gibbon, Amersham Hospital Gardens Project Volunteers,The Landscape Group who provided the landscaping, and Tendercare Nurseries in Denham for the plants.
“The garden’s relocation to Amersham Hospital will be a lasting legacy to their Chelsea experience and will be an uplifting and tranquil space where people can relax and enjoy the wonderful, therapeutic surroundings for many years to come.”
