Nice to see Casper again.... he spent part of his time as a puppy in Trafford...

Congratulations to new partnership Steve and Casper!

Steve is a Bristol City Football Club season ticket holder and also a keen golfer. When ‘on class’ in Bristol, the pair covered several destinations including Ashton Gate Stadium.

Steve said: “Casper is my third guide dog and he really is worth the wait. It means I can be more independent again and am not relying on other people. As a blind golfer, it also opens up new opportunities for me.

“After using the white cane for a little while, it certainly means that you appreciate a guide dog.”

Just a reminder that bird flu has been detected in Trafford and it is recommended that dogs are kept on a lead around water where there are water birds..

A case of avian influenza HN51, also known as bird flu, has been confirmed in a wild bird in Trafford. We’re asking everyone to take a few simple precautions to help limit the spread and protect our wildlife.

The risk to the public is very low, but please:

• Don’t pick up or touch dead or sick wild birds
• Report any dead wild birds online at https://ow.ly/gwas50XpyJ9 or call Defra on 03459 33 55 77
• Avoid touching feathers or surfaces contaminated with bird droppings
• Don’t feed wild waterfowl
• If you keep birds, wash your hands and disinfect footwear before and after tending to them
• If you have been in close contact with wild birds and develop flu like symptoms, please get in touch with your GP or call NHS 111.

If you are visiting any parks with ponds or open water, please stick to the footpaths and keep dogs on a lead.

Last week we introduced Puppy Hour in partnership with select Chef & Brewer pubs!

Puppy Hour is for puppy raisers to get together over a free hot drink, chat, and let their puppies socialise.

It's also an opportunity for the public to meet adorable guide dog pups and their volunteers and discover what it’s like to become a Puppy Raiser.

There are two sessions remaining: Thursday 13th and 20th November at 11am.

📍 In the North West, find us at:
- The Griffin, Bowdon (Altrincham)
- The Swan, Winwick (Warrington)
- The Roebuck, Bilsborrow (Preston)

If you'd like to join us just turn up - no need to book.

I believe this is now a confirmed outbreak, but as its highly infectious its likely to be in other locations where there are flocks of birds.

The risk to dogs is low, but they can catch it, so do be carefull.

Tests are being carried out on a number of birds found dead at Sale Water Park over the last three days
