Borys Shusterman was born in 1953 in Kharkov, Ukraine. In the early 1970s, while being an engineering student of the local polytechnic university, Borys participated in the student amateur movie studio as a director and a cameraman. The studio was highly regarded among similar student studios in the Soviet Union. Thanks to its professional-level equipment, the studio had all capabilities for producing 35-mm movies and produced award-winning documentaries and short features. At the movie studio, Borys mastered all processes of the full-cycle production and for many years, dreamed of working independently. It took just 30 years for his dreams to become reality... In 2010, Borys directed the short film Axis. One of the film’s locations was in Rome, Italy. The film was selected for festivals “In the palace” Bulgaria and at the Kiev International Film Festival. In 2012, the film New Year’s Interlude was filmed, which was selected at the prestigious Byron Bay festival in Australia. In 2016, a documentary film “September 16 in Bobrovy Kut” about the Holocaust in 1941 was filmed in the south of Ukraine. The film has been accepted into the archives of the Holocaust Museums in Washington DC and Yad Vashem, Israel. All these films can be watched on YouTube channel of Boris Shusterman. For many years, Borys has worked in the theaters of the city and is friends with many actors who trust Borys and are ready to act in his films based on his scripts, of which he has more than 10. So at the present time, Borys and his friends shot a short film Bulsh*t, which the viewer might like.

Students: Are you itching to test out your skills in text-to-video generative A.I.?

We are looking for pairs of students who would like to pioneer a one-week filmmaking challenge that combines live action and generative AI filmmaking.

It’s really just a bit of fun: you are both set a prompt and must come back the week after, each with a one-minute creation that meets the brief. We’ll vote the winner too!

The challenge will be set at next Monday’s Short Cuts (5-7pm, room SAB201). Students from any year group can participate but will need a Google AI Pro account (which is free with a student email).

Sign up by messaging the Short Cuts team here on our Instagram DM’s. Sign up in twos so you have a challenger! There are limited spaces!
