An outstanding day at RNLI Seahouses Lifeboat Station, many thanks to all for a great day.

Yesterday was our Summer Fete Day and it's safe to say it was absolutely incredible. 🧡💙

Not only did we start the day with 2 shouts 📟 for our D-Class Inshore Lifeboat but we saw a record number of visitors and raised a record breaking figure.

The money raised goes directly to RNLI Seahouses Lifeboat Station and pays for the vital kit we use to save lives at sea. None of this would have been possible without the unwavering commitment and support from our Staff, Volunteer & Supporters.

We would like to take this opportunity to say a lot of Thank Yous

All RNLI Staff and Volunteers, Water Safety, Fundraisers, Shop Staff, Boat Crew, Shore Crew.

The local community for supplying delicious baked goods for our tea/coffee and cake sale which all went down a storm.

Seahouses Primary School for the loan of tables and chairs, the beautiful bunting too. The Hub at Seahouses for providing the tables for our stalls and cake sale. We are incredibly grateful.

To the incredible local musicians 🎹🎤🎸 who provided the entertainment throughout the day.

Our flanking stations Craster Lifeboat Station RNLI and RNLI Berwick upon Tweed Lifeboats not forgetting the wonderful team from RNLI Grace Darling Museum

Our partner agencies Seahouses Coastguard Rescue Team Northumbria Police and Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service

To all of the local businesses who donated so generously prizes for our Raffle - a special mention to The Herd- Traditional Butchers for providing an incredible feast for our lunch and Lewis's Fish Restaurant for the delicious chippy tea.

🚤 Ever thought about volunteering with the RNLI ?

As part of Volunteers’ Week, you are invited to an online event about what it’s really like to volunteer with the RNLI, in the North and East Region, from operational roles through to fundraising, water safety, shop volunteering, and more.

It’s taking place on Wednesday 3rd June at 6pm

It’s an opportunity to:
⚓ Hear directly from current volunteers
⚓ Ask questions in an informal setting
⚓ Find out about the wide range of opportunities available
⚓ Learn how you could make a difference in your community

You don’t need previous experience, maritime knowledge, or lots of spare time, there are many different ways to get involved and support saving lives at sea.

If you, a friend, colleague, or family member might be interested, we’d love to see you there.

Current volunteers are also welcome to join and bring a friend!

Book your free place here:

All of our volunteers at Craster Lifeboat Station RNLI are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic events involving our fellow volunteers at Marine Rescue NSW.

We stand in solidarity with our Australian colleagues at this incredibly difficult time.

Craster RNLI

Last night was the darkest night ever experienced by Marine Rescue NSW.

Marine Rescue NSW volunteers answer the call for help 24/7 and last night six members from Marine Rescue Ballina did just that. They launched with a single mission, to save lives on the water and assist a yacht, reported to be in difficulty off the South Ballina break wall.

Tragically, two of our volunteers lost their lives during the response.

Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Todd Andrews said the devastating loss is a solemn reminder of the risks faced by volunteers who serve their communities.

“These two men were serving their local community and have made the ultimate sacrifice to help others.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones of the deceased, their fellow crew members, the brave radio operators who handled the difficult communications during the incident, the entire Marine Rescue NSW family and the wider Ballina community during this incredibly difficult time.

“We are supporting our volunteers and their families through professional counselling and chaplaincy support.

“We ask that the privacy of those involved and their families be respected during this difficult time,” Commissioner Andrews said.

This afternoon the 22 Jan 2026, just as darkness was falling and an hour before high tide, Andy the Craster RNLI volunteer press officer took these photos of the rough sea and waves battering Craster Harbour.

All photos were taken from a safe distance from the waters edge.

The sea can be dangerously unpredictable, and with weather warnings still in place around the country, here are our five top tips for staying safe around the coast ❄️
- Check the weather and tide times for your location and know when to turn back to avoid being cut off.
- Stay well back from the water’s edge, as waves can be larger than expected and surfaces slippery.
- Let someone know where you are going, when you expect to be back, and carry a means of calling for help.
- If you’re struggling in the water, Float to Live.
- If you or someone else is in difficulty, call 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard.
If in doubt, don't go out 🧡
