Happy Friday, folks! 🌈

We are delighted to welcome some new staff to the team this week. This will help us roll out even more of the fun stuff! Fox's little team is truly amazing, and we are very lucky to have such a kind, flexible bunch who always roll with the madness. 🦊

📚 Our staff attended some self-harm awareness training this week, which was incredibly informative and great to have under our belt.

A huge well done to all the Alness Academy kiddos for walking up Fyrish in the heat yesterday — massive high fives to everybody involved! 👏
Of course, that meant our academy kiddos weren’t around at the hub, but the timing actually worked out quite well. It gave Lennon and Gord the perfect opportunity to plant some grass seeds in what will become our new kiddies’ corner. 🌱 We’ve also had our first fruit ready to harvest too! 🍓

Our new benches outside in the car park are already getting plenty of use, with lots of people enjoying sitting in the sunshine during our community drop-in. Sadly we can't add any picnic benches to the area as the carpark is heavily used each day, but we can’t wait to get the garden open! 🌻

🍳 You asked, and we will deliver!
We are delighted to soon be bringing cookery lessons to the hub. We are currently exploring the launch of an ASN cookery group, a family cookery group, and an adult-only cookery group.
These classes will be delivered by our friends at Tain For You Training who have just built an amazing new campus.More details and dates will follow after we visit them next week! 🍝 ForYou Training

The hub has also welcomed some new regular groups to the mix. A separate post will follow with details of all the amazing projects running under this roof.

🐞🌿 Fox Tots toddler group will be on again today at 10.30am, with lots of mini-beast fun to be had! (Also running over the summer holidays).

We’ve just received an upgraded emergency food box for the hub. A huge thank you to the men’s group for building it for us this week. This box can be accessed when the Food Share is closed, so please help spread the word to ensure no family goes without.

We’d also like to thank the men’s group for all their hard work in the garden this week, especially the lovely gentleman who is putting his old trade skills back to use and helping rebuild the wall. 🧱

☕️We’ve had a fantastic response to our Afternoon Tea invitation for care homes in and around Easter Ross. We look forward to welcoming everyone before the end of term and hope to make this a regular event.

🎉 We had a great afternoon at our neighbours, Flip of the Coin, during their open day this week. These guys are doing some amazing work and share many of the same values as us, working hard to ensure nobody feels lonely or isolated while promoting positive mental health and wellbeing within our community. 💜
Their new space, The Flipside, is open to everyone, and we would encourage you to pop over to their page and have a look at what they have on offer. You’ll be made very welcome! 😊 Flip of the Coin SCIO

From Saturday 20th June, the Hub Community Pop In room will be opening on Saturdays, and we're delighted by the interest and support we've received so far. We know that weekend opening will make the hub more accessible for many families, and we're looking forward to welcoming even more of our community through the doors. The back room and little snug are still available to hire on a Saturday too.

🛍️ We’re also very excited for our Community Market next weekend! We’ve managed to add even more wonderful local goodies, including jams, tablet, herbal teas, cakes, garden plants, vegetable plants, fresh eggs and honey. We can’t wait to welcome everyone along and showcase some of the fantastic produce and talent our community has to offer. And, of course, all of these will complement the already amazing range of crafts and stalls we have on board. There really will be something for everyone! 😊

💰 We’re delighted to have officially made it through to the second round of two major funding applications! 🤞
Of course, that doesn’t mean we’ve secured them just yet, but hopefully we’ll be back soon with some good news and be able to start rolling out lots of exciting new family projects at the hub.

Finally, a special thank you to Moss n Wild for providing some beautiful little posies for our volunteers yesterday. 🌸 Our volunteers give so much of their time, energy and kindness to support our families and community, and we are incredibly grateful for everything they do. We simply couldn't do what we do without them. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication — we appreciate every single one of you. 💜

Have a super weekend, folks! 🦊

Ps - Tin donations welcome for our Food bank. Many thanks

🎉 Saturday Opening! 🎉

We’re planning to open our Community Pop In and Food Bank every Saturday from the 20th of June, from 11am until 2pm! 💚

We’re super chuffed to be opening on Saturdays because it means we can be more accessible for families, children who are at school through the week, and people needing to access the Food Share. It will also give many of our regulars the opportunity for some extra company over the weekend. ☕️

Our Pop In room is a welcoming space offering company over a cuppa, alongside activities such as darts, pool, board games, jigsaw puzzles, diamond art, and more. You name it — we’ve probably got it! And if we don’t, just request it and we’ll do our best to get it in for you. We also have a great selection of children’s toys and activities for all ages. ☕🎯🧩🧸

We will also continue to have our 24-hour food box available at the hub while we work towards eventually opening six days a week.

Of course, our Community Market on the first Saturday of every month will continue as planned, with our Community Pop-In regulars very welcome to pop along for a coffee and a browse, as we always have teas on offer on the day. ☕

On Community Market days, our Food Share will remain open from 11am until 2pm. 🥫🥒

Up next - Wednesday evening opening will be our next priority, as soon as funding allows. For now — see you on Saturday 20th June! The kettle will be on 💜

Coop community fund - HUGE thanks to the 586 people already choosing to support us through their coop card! 🥰

You can support Alness Community Hub by selecting us as your chosen charity when you shop at the Coop.

We are looking start a new weekly support group at the Hub, which offers activities to families living with dementia, brain injury and memory loss. 🧠 All funds raised will go towards this group.

It's really simple to show your support.

Simple select us as your chosen charity on the link below. ⬇️

Happy Friday, folks! ☀️🌸

At last, spring is in the air, and it’s been another fantastic week at the hub, with lots of BIG plans being set.

Our Academy kiddos had a brilliant time treasure hunting in the garden, while they were all cracking on with getting the greenhouse built, planting more seeds and adding their artwork to our new fence. 🌱🍓

Another lovely project we’re now working on for the garden is a special time capsule with some primary school kiddos. This will be buried in the garden, where it can hopefully be dug up again in 100 years’ time! 🕰️🌱

We’re also delighted to share that next months Community Market will be offering an even wider range of goodies, including fresh eggs, honey, crafts, cakes, and lots of lovely plants for sale.🥚🍯🍰🌿 we also have bric a brac and teas on offer.

After another shout-out for event workers, we think we now have a couple of new people lined up. Please keep watching this space, as we’ll hopefully be rolling out more fun activities and events over the coming months! 🎉

🧠We’re excited to finally have a start date for our Mindful Moments cognitive impairment group. Our staff are now fully up to speed with their dementia training thanks to Alzheimer Scotland and Age Scotland, and we look forward to welcoming everyone on Tuesday 23rd June at 2:15pm. Please note this group will run weekly on Tuesdays rather than Wednesdays as originally planned.💜

Following some discussion, our ASN group will remain as it is for now due to current staff capacity. However, we have a couple of funding applications in progress and are hopeful that we’ll soon be able to expand and offer a second ASN evening at the hub. This funding will also determine if we can start some other exciting new family groups... hopefully we have good news on this soon!💙
Our ASN groups are now looking forward to their annual summer trip to Landmark, and although we haven’t forgotten about the cinema trip, we’re now planning to arrange this after the summer holidays instead. 🎢🎬

We also have some exciting news coming about cookery classes! Early discussions have included both ASN cookery and family cookery, we are just waiting on word back and we hope to then share more info.. 👩‍🍳🍰

An invitation has now been sent out to several care homes, and we’re hopeful that we’ll soon be hosting our very first intergenerational Afternoon Tea at the Hub before the end of term. ☕🧁

Our next focus is to open the hub doors on Saturdays. This would allow our community pop-in sessions to run with the kettle on alongside access to the food bank. Start date hopefully coming soon. - We’re now on the hunt for some kind-hearted volunteers who may be able to donate a little of their time on Saturdays. If this is something you’d be interested in, please get in touch. 😊

As mentioned before we are looking to expand the food bank into other areas to support familes who may not be in a position to get to us. We are delighted to have a second meeting next week to get the ball rolling for a food outlet in Invergordon. This will allow us to reduce our food waste whilst supporting more familes throughout the week.

We are planning to keep our toddler group running over the summer holidays, with activities added to keep older siblings happy! More on this later...🧸

Thank you, as always, for supporting our little community hub. We truly couldn’t do it without you all and we are buzzing to see it grow as we continue to add more to the mix! 🦊
