Meet John 👋

John has been part of ILM Highland for 25 years, working across a range of roles and bringing a huge amount of experience with him.

Now as a driver-operative, he’s out and about across the Highlands, helping communities and meeting people along the way.

As John puts it, the best part of the job is “driving all over the beautiful Highlands and meeting loads of different people.”

It’s safe to say the old saying rings true, do a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.

🔧♻️ Repair Café is back this Saturday! ♻️🔧

Got something at home that needs a little TLC? Bring it along to the Perrins Centre in Alness and our volunteers will do their best to help repair it.

This month, we’ll also have a full sewing team available 🧵

So whether you’ve got a repair, alteration, or you’re curious about learning how to use textile patterns or make your own clothes, come along for a chat and some friendly advice.

We’ll be sharing the Perrins Centre with another event on the day, but don’t worry, we’ll be signposted. The more the merrier!

Parking is available on the road down towards Alness Station, and Averon Café will be keeping us well supplied with cake, so leave a little room ☕

🌍 Small Scheme, Big Impact – Continuing the Journey! 💚

The impact continues through our partnership with Currys/DHL Inverness and the Reuse Network

In May 2026, the White Goods Returns Scheme helped 22 households access essential items that would otherwise have gone to waste, delivering an estimated £4,050 in financial savings and preventing approximately 2.09 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.

Every appliance successfully reused represents more than an environmental saving – it's practical support for local households when they need it most.

✅ 22 households supported
✅ £4,050 saved for local families
✅ 2.09 tonnes of CO₂ prevented
✅ Valuable items diverted from waste and given a second life

This ongoing partnership demonstrates how collaboration can create real social, economic and environmental benefits across our communities. Together, we're helping people save money, reducing waste, and supporting a more sustainable future for the Highlands.

♻️ What a fantastic first ILM Repair Café at the Seaboard Centre in Balintore!

We had 28 people come along for a morning full of repairs, good conversation and plenty of laughs, with most items successfully fixed on the day, including one very special bee hive 🐝

Alongside repairs, the team also helped with some much-needed PAT testing for the Centre, put up a TV, and of course enjoyed plenty of cake, kindly supplied by Averon Café in Alness 🍰

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the first Balintore Repair Café such a success.

Claire Halls from the Seaboard Centre said:
“Sue from ILM and the volunteers made it all work like clockwork!”

And one visitor shared:
“I am delighted with the help I received, carry on with what you're doing.”

The atmosphere all morning was brilliant, and we hope this is just the beginning for Repair Cafés in Balintore 💚

ILM Highland is teaming up with the team at GYAP to make household electrical recycling simple and local. Your unwanted kettles, toasters, TVs, washing machines and more can all be responsibly recycled – keeping valuable materials in use and helping protect the Highlands. 💚

At the recycling centres in Nairn, Inverness, Wick and Thurso, you’ll find ILM Highland Re-Use Containers.

These are for working electrical appliances that are undamaged and can be safely stored.

Instead of being recycled, these items are set aside for re-use, giving them a second life through ILM Highland’s sales, helping others access affordable appliances and reducing waste even further 💚

So next time you’re visiting the recycling centre, keep an eye out for the Re-Use Container 👀
