New, nearly new or refurbished, there are more ways to shop with ILM Highland 💚

In our Alness and Inverness shops, and online, you can find a changing range of appliances to suit different homes, budgets and needs.

That might mean a brand-new appliance ready to go, a nearly new item that is brand new but has a cosmetic blemish, or a refurbished appliance that has been checked, repaired where needed and given another chance.

Nearly new appliances can be a great option for places where a small mark is not a problem, such as under a counter, in a utility room or in a garage.

You can shop online anytime, with quick delivery available. When you buy from ILM Highland, we can also uplift your old appliance for free.

And every purchase helps support ILM Highland’s wider work across People, Place and Planet, from reducing waste to supporting practical services across the Highlands ♻️

💚 Another month of making a difference through reuse!

Our ongoing partnership with Currys and DHL Inverness, through the White Goods Return Scheme, continues to show how working together can benefit Highland households and the environment.

During September 2026, this partnership helped deliver:

🏡 Reused household appliances to 11 households

💚 An estimated £2,100 in savings for those households

🌍 Around 1.25 tonnes of CO₂ savings through reuse

These are September’s results from just one of the partnerships supporting ILM Highland’s work.

Across the organisation, our impact reaches much further — helping people access affordable household essentials, supporting independent living, creating opportunities for skills and employment, and giving appliances and materials a second life.

It's about more than recycling. It's about making a positive difference to people’s everyday lives while caring for our environment.

A big thank you to Currys, DHL and the Reuse Network for their continued partnership and support.

People. Place. Planet. 💚

A shop with a bigger purpose 💚

ILM Highland’s Inverness store is helping more people access essential household appliances locally, while supporting the wider work ILM does across the Highlands.

Every washing machine, cooker, fridge or freezer sold helps keep the organisation’s social and environmental mission moving.

It is practical support for local households, with wider impact built in. Angela explains more in the video

What a brilliant evening at the Scottish Parliament! 💚♻️

Ruth Crombie, Martin Macleod and Susan Muir were delighted to represent ILM Highland at the Holyrood Repair Café, joining organisations from across Scotland to celebrate the growing repair and reuse movement.

With 15 MSPs attending, it was a fantastic opportunity to share ideas, experiences and the work being done by communities to keep useful items in circulation for longer.

As Sue put it:

“The buzz of the night was palpable, such a friendly gathering of like-minded people, all wanting to share the excitement of their projects, their knowledge, experience and energy to move forward.”

And the impact of this work is growing! Recent research shared by Circular Communities Scotland found that, over the past year, more than 17,000 people visited community repair services across Scotland, with over 13,000 items repaired.

A huge thank you to Circular Communities Scotland and Lorna Slater for organising such a brilliant event and bringing everyone together.

We're proud to support , a campaign calling for stronger support for Scotland's circular charities and social enterprises, helping repair, reuse and sharing continue to thrive.

Here's to keeping that energy going and making reuse a bigger part of Scotland's future! 💚

What actually happens at the Repair Café? ♻️

Sue has been the driving force behind ILM Highland’s Repair Café, working with our talented volunteers to bring people together, share skills and keep useful items in use for longer.

The Repair Café is about more than repairs. It is a chance to have a cuppa, meet people, learn something new and be part of a more sustainable way of living in the Highlands.

Watch Sue explain more about what the Repair Café is all about 💚

Our next Repair Café is taking place on:

Helping people live safely at home is becoming more important than ever.

Across the Highlands, more people need practical support to remain safe, independent and confident in their own homes.

For ILM Highland, that support can take many forms. It might be a small Handyperson repair that removes a trip hazard, a Telecare installation that gives reassurance after a fall, or a Care & Repair adaptation that makes daily life safer.

These services are practical, but their impact reaches further than the task itself.

They help people stay in the homes they know, give reassurance to families across the Highlands, and play a part in reducing pressure on wider care services across our communities.

As demand continues to grow, clear referral routes and careful prioritisation are important, helping make sure support is managed properly and reaches those who need it most.

Because a safer home can mean more than independence.

It can mean confidence, reassurance and the chance to stay connected to the place that matters most. 💚

What does being a good neighbour mean to ILM Highland? 💚

After winning The Stemovators Good Neighbour Award last month, we wanted to share what that means in practice.

For ILM Highland, being a good neighbour is not a new idea. It is part of how we work every day.

It means helping people stay safely and independently at home, giving useful items a second life, reducing waste and supporting communities across the Highlands.

It is not one single service or one part of what we do. It is the bigger picture behind ILM Highland.

Every time you shop with us, use our services or support our work, you are helping us be a good neighbour to more people, places and communities across the Highlands ♻️

Got unwanted electricals at home? There’s more than one way to recycle them responsibly ♻️

If it has a plug, cable or battery, ILM Highland can help you find the right route for it, whether it’s a kettle that’s stopped working or a larger household appliance.

Across the Highlands, you can:

🚐 Bring items to one of our community collection days
🩷 Use one of our pink bins for smaller household electricals
♻️ Take electricals to your local Highland Council recycling centre
💚 Use dedicated reuse containers for suitable working appliances at Nairn, Inverness, Wick and Thurso recycling centres
🏠 Book a HomeClear collection for appliances you need collected from home
📍 Drop domestic electrical items directly into ILM Highland in Alness

Wherever possible, suitable items are identified for reuse, while those that have reached the end of their useful life are recycled responsibly so valuable materials can be recovered and kept in circulation.

A busy morning in Alness with P5–P7 pupils from Melville Knox School joining us for a Rescued & Ready workshop!

The session gave the children a chance to learn more about electrical safety, reuse and recycling, with some practical activities along the way, including learning how to safely change a fuse in a UK plug.

It was great to see so many questions, plenty of enthusiasm and lots of hands-on learning throughout the morning.

A brilliant way to help young people understand how everyday electrical items can be used safely, repaired where possible and kept in use for longer ♻️
