Tonight was a closely fought match which looked like Stirling were going to be heading home with the win until a round 4 swing saw clacks win the match 9-7. It was a close contest that saw no player walk away with a 0 score. Round 1 Finished 2.5-1.5 in favour of Stirling the most notable game being the draw on board 4 where Catherine had promoted a pawn but repeated moves causing a draw but was not forced into into and had a winning position. Round 2&3 saw each team go blow for blow finishing 2-2 in each round. There was some swindling by glen in round 3 where he was down the exchange but found a combination to win a rook and then push on for the win. With the score at 6.5-5.5 clacks needed 2.5 just to get a draw and in Round 4 Glen and Joseph got their wins. Roman then produced his first win of the night but was perhaps the most important win for clacks as it was the in that gave us win. Catherine then finished the scoring by stalemating their opponent wrapping it up at 9-7 to Clackmannanshire. Thanks to all the players for their efforts tonight and commiserations Stirling who played well, it was a pleasure hosting them tonight.

After our unfortunate result last night vs Stirling we have yet another match this time in the Allegro League against them. Best of luck to all competing 💪 ♟️❤️
Luke will be on hand for all those not taking part in the Allegro match which begins at 7pm.
As such the session will begin in the back room then split to the front room as the League match begins.

From 1 November 2026 at 10:00 a.m., registration opens for the amateur tournaments of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2027.

Every year, Wijk aan Zee brings together the world’s top players and thousands of chess enthusiasts. While the Masters and Challengers compete at the highest level, amateur players from around the world get the opportunity to take their place at the board and become part of the tournament themselves.

From 15 to 31 January 2027, the 89th edition of the tournament will once again offer weekend, weekday and nine-round tournaments in the unique atmosphere of Wijk aan Zee.

Tonight's game against Stirling C was a tough one considering they're the current holders of the league Cup. This strength was shown by them fielding a strong team that sweeped all boards winning 5-0. This however doesn't mean that Clackmannanshire Chess Club made it easy for them. Board 3 finished first where Aidan fought on down a piece but eventually lost the game. Board 1 was next to finish where Glen played against a variation of the Caro-kann that he was unfamiliar with. He came out the opening in a poor position and down 2 pawns which his opponent took full advantage of. Boards 2 and 4 finished at similar times where both clacks players fought bravely but both down material they couldn't mount a comeback. The last game of the night to finish was board 3 where Vytautas had an even position the only difference between the 2 players was that Vytautas had a bishop and his opponent had a Knight... as well as 20 more minutes on the clock! Down to just 6 minute's Vytautas had to pick up the pace and lost a pawn but whittled down to just a minute left he resigned knowing he was unable to salvge anything. Once again that you too all the players that took part as well as to Stirling for hosting us once more.
