Alireza Firouzja’s words capture a truth that goes far beyond the 64 squares of a chessboard: true passion creates a quiet, constant presence in your mind.

In everyday life, the quote speaks to the power of dedicated obsession and intrinsic motivation. It illustrates how the things we truly care about—whether it’s an intricate trade, a creative pursuit, a side project, or a personal mastery—refuse to be left at the office or put away in a box.

How it connects to real-life experiences:

Subconscious Problem-Solving: Just as a chess player mentally calculates moves while doing routine tasks, anyone deeply engaged in a craft is constantly mulling over solutions. A programmer debugging code while brushing their teeth or an artist framing scenes while taking a walk are living this exact reality.

Identity Beyond the "Professional" Label: You don't need a grand title or a paycheck to justify your passion. Firouzja points out that even non-professionals think about the game constantly. Loving something deeply isn't reserved for those who do it for a living; dedication is defined by time, focus, and emotional investment.

The Gravitational Pull of Purpose: Some interests aren't just temporary hobbies; they are foundational parts of who we are. When you find something you "can never quit," it becomes an anchor, offering a sense of focus, challenge, and personal fulfillment that persists through life's up and downs.

Doors Open Days return to Clackmannanshire!

On 26 and 27 September buildings and spaces throughout the county will be opening their doors and gates, giving you the chance to discover more of Clackmannanshire's history and heritage.

From castles and towers to churches and other places of worship, archives and museums, gardens and hidden places, there's plenty to explore. The programme is organised, coordinated and promoted by Clackmannanshire Heritage Trust, as part of the national Doors Open Days programme.

CTSI is delighted to have supported the publication of this year's local programme.
