Allendale First is a constituted group of people (not representatives of organisations) and the group's purpose is to
Acquire, develop and manage the buildings and land of the former Allendale First School to support the sustainability of the Allen Valleys community
Allendale First is applying for funding to research and develop ideas for using the former First School. Currently Thornley Leazes
Care, Allendale Preschool and Allendale Library are keen to become tenants of the new building. We hope to work with local residents, community groups and organisations. If you might be interested in working with us or renting some space in the future, please get in touch. One of our first actions, awaiting funding, is planned to be commissioning a gap analysis of the existing provision within our community. This will help us develop our proposals to complement, not compete with, other community facilities, such as local shops, the Forge, Village Hall, Allen Mill, etc.. We want to increase the sustainability of our community, and it is also a requirement of Community Asset Transfers from NCC. Allendale First directors are:
Yvonne Conchie (Chair), Larry Winger, Kate Maughn, Gail Stephenson, John Dobson, Linda Charlton, Carolyn Harrison, Dani Henderson. The constitution and policies were drawn up and agreed in November and December 2014. We have no vacancies on the board at present, but anyone who wishes to become a director may apply through these procedures.
