Outstanding Effort at the RAF WARMA 2-Day March

Huge congratulations to Sgt Sanderson and Cdt North for their outstanding achievements this weekend!

Alongside our OC, Flt Lt Bramley, they travelled to RAF Cosford as part of Trent Wing’s contingent to take part in this year’s RAF WARMA 2-Day March, successfully completing an incredible 2 x 40km marches!

A special well done to Cdt North on completing the event for the first time and now qualifying for his Silver Road Marching Award, a fantastic accomplishment! Sgt Sanderson also deserves recognition for completing the event for a second time, building on last year’s success. As for Flt Lt Bramley… march number six for him, but who’s counting! 😄

Well done to everyone from Trent Wing who took part. This is a physically demanding challenge at the best of times, made even tougher this year by the hot weather conditions. A brilliant effort all round!

1401 Squadron Celebrates Marshal Trophy Nomination

This evening, the squadron was pleased to welcome Derbyshire Sector Commander, Sqn Ldr Pimborough.

Following the recent announcement that 1401 Squadron has been nominated as Trent Wing’s representative for the prestigious Marshal Trophy, Sqn Ldr Pimborough presented Officer Commanding, Flt Lt Dan Bramley, with a certificate in recognition of this achievement.

The Marshal Trophy is awarded to the RAFAC squadron that has demonstrated the most improvement over a three-year period.

Being selected as our Wing’s nomination is a significant achievement and reflects the hard work, commitment, and progress of both our cadets and staff, as well as the positive direction the squadron continues to move in.

A big thank you to everyone who has contributed to this success, this is something we can all be proud of as we continue to build on our progress and push forward in hopes of reaching the next stage of the competition.

We would like to give a huge shout out to Cadet Jake Foddy, who, alongside his father Stephen, is doing something truly inspiring by raising funds for The Great Tommy Sleep Out

The Great Tommy Sleep Out is a nationwide fundraising challenge that sees participants spend a night sleeping outdoors during the winter months to raise awareness and vital funds for homeless veterans. It’s about standing in solidarity with those who have served our country and are now facing hardship, helping to provide the support they need to rebuild their lives.

Jake is showing incredible dedication to this cause and will be undertaking his second night of sleeping out this evening, an amazing effort that deserves real recognition.

Proving that teamwork extends beyond the parade square, our cadets recently competed in Esports.

Staff at the squadron organised an exciting inter-flight competition, giving everyone the chance to put their gaming skills to the test. After six intense rounds, points were tied between two flights, forcing a dramatic sudden death round to decide the winners!

A huge congratulations to Delta Flight, who claimed the overall victory!

It was an enjoyable night for all involved, full of teamwork, communication, and a little healthy competition. This is definitely something we’ll be developing further at the squadron!

🥞Pancake Night 🥞

This week at 1401 Squadron we made the most of Pancake Day with a brilliant mix of training, teamwork and a little friendly competition.

Before any batter was poured, cadets received training on the safe use of camping stoves, focusing on correct setup, fuel awareness, positioning, and safe cooking practices. Safety is always our priority, especially as we prepare for upcoming Duke of Edinburgh's Award expeditions.

Cadets put their new skills into action in our inter-flight Pancake Competition! Pancakes were judged on:
🥞 Presentation
🔥 Flare
😋 Edibility

There were some fantastic efforts across all flights, from creative toppings to impressive stove control, but after careful deliberation, Delta Flight were crowned the outright winners!

Most importantly, it was great to see strong teamwork, improved confidence with cooking equipment, and safe working practices throughout the evening. Skills that will serve our cadets well on their upcoming expeditions and beyond.

Well done to everyone involved!

Celebrating 85 Years of the Air Training Corps

Today marks the 85th Anniversary of the Air Training Corps.

Eighty-five years ago today, on 5 February 1941, King George VI awarded the organisation a Royal Warrant. This led to the reorganisation of the Air Defence Cadet Corps (ADCC) into what became the Air Training Corps.

This means the organisation is officially 85 years old today, representing 85 years of facilitating incredible opportunities for cadets, positively shaping and influencing countless young people along the way.

Whether through fostering a spirit of adventure, preparing cadets for service or civilian life, developing leadership and good citizenship, or instilling the values of respect, integrity, service, and excellence, the Air Training Corps has had a profound impact on young people for the past 85 years.

We are incredibly grateful to be a part of this organisation and thankful for everything it continues to provide.
