Aspire - Chaos to Calm

Aspire - Chaos to Calm Childcare Professional | Parent Support Coach | Neurodivergent Advocate | Home Educator Courses are tailored to the age of your child.

Helping parents and children on a journey of discovery, building communication skills and turning Chaos into Calm.

“We can be taught academics at any age, but emotional intelligence must be nurtured throughout our childhood.”

Tammie Griffiths, owner of Aspire, delivers workshops, online courses and one-to-one assistance to help parents and children who feel disconnected from each other. There’s

no censure, no right or wrong approach, just parents working together to develop the tools you need to bring clarity into a confused household and recognise negative behaviours before they become habits. Using a combination of techniques such as Clean Language and Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Aspire courses help parents to delve deeper into the behavioural patterns that may be causing frustration, anxiety and anger in their children. With so much noise and distraction around us, we get stuck in the rhythm of our busy lives and hit a point where we just cannot see a way forward. I work with children to identify the cause of their emotional response – and with parents to put a plan in place to change or remove habits which prompt negative responses. Aspire courses do not dictate the right path, only give you the tools to hear what your child is saying, and empower you to bring calm to the chaos in your home. Learn how to encourage your child to talk openly, and identify the issues. Individual consult prior to booking to be sure the course is appropriate to your needs. Design an action plan for change,

This term has been busy and full of learning

Our focus on wellbeing and understanding emotions has been at the heart of everything we’ve done. The children have been exploring how they feel, learning to name their emotions, and finding ways to express themselves safely and confidently. Whether through stories, play, or simple conversations, we’ve been building those strong foundations that help children feel seen, heard, and understood.

As part of our cultural capital, we’ve embraced the beauty of spring and what it means in our local community.
We’ve explored themes around farming, new life, and growth, helping the children connect with the world around them and understand where things come from. From talking about animals and crops to noticing the changes in the seasons, it’s been a lovely way to bring learning to life.

Music and movement have been a daily joy, with action songs bringing energy and big smiles, while also supporting coordination and confidence. Alongside this, the children have been learning Makaton, giving them another way to communicate and connect with each other.

We’ve also been busy building early maths skills through nursery rhymes, using rhythm and repetition to practice counting in a fun and engaging way. It’s been amazing to see their confidence grow as they join in and recognise numbers more and more.

As we’ve approached Easter, we’ve taken time to learn about different faiths and traditions, helping the children to understand and respect the world’s diversity. These conversations have been gentle, age-appropriate, and rooted in curiosity and kindness.

It’s been a term full of meaningful learning, wrapped up in play, connection, and care

Building towers with Playmags in the EYFS is one of those quietly powerful moments where play does the heavy lifting

At first glance, it’s just children stacking colourful magnetic tiles, but underneath that wobbly tower is a whole world of learning taking shape.

As children build, they’re exploring early concepts of shape, space and measure. They quickly discover that a wide base keeps a tower standing, while a top-heavy design sends it tumbling like a dramatic plot twist. That trial-and-error process is pure problem-solving in action, gently introducing the basics of engineering without a single worksheet in sight.

There’s also a strong link to fine motor development. Clicking the magnets together, balancing pieces, and adjusting structures all help to strengthen little hands and improve coordination, laying foundations for writing later on.

Socially, tower building becomes a shared mission. Children negotiate roles, exchange ideas, and sometimes navigate the big feelings that come when someone accidentally knocks everything down. In those moments, they’re learning resilience, communication, and how to start again… often with an even better design.

Language flows naturally too. Words like “taller,” “balance,” “strong,” and “collapse” start to appear as children describe what they’re doing, turning play into a rich communication experience.

And then there’s the magic of imagination. One child’s tower is a castle, another’s is a rocket, another’s a skyscraper that “touches the clouds.” The structure may be made of magnets, but the thinking behind it is expansive and limitless.

In the EYFS, activities like this remind us that learning doesn’t need to be loud or complicated. Sometimes it’s just a child, a handful of Playmags, and a tower that falls down five times before it finally stands tall… and when it does, the pride is everything.

📢 Drop-In Update – A Goodbye For Now, Not Forever 💛

We wanted to share an important update with all our families, carers and young people.

Our Drop-In sessions are not currently running, and we know this may be disappointing for those who rely on the space each week. This isn’t the end of our journey — just a pause while we work behind the scenes to plan what comes next and make sure we can return stronger, better, and with the best support possible.

✨ What’s really important:
Even though Drop-In is on hold, we are still here for you.
If you need support, advice, signposting, someone to talk to, or help navigating challenges, please reach out. You’re not on your own — our doors may be closed temporarily, but our support isn’t.

We will keep everyone updated, and we truly appreciate your understanding, patience, and continued trust.

This is not goodbye — just “see you soon.” 💛
If you need anything in the meantime, message us any time.

Enjoy the half term break 😊

Introducing three letter words in EYFS isn’t about worksheets and sitting still. It’s about turning reading into a treasure hunt.
We start with something simple. “Find me the pig.” Suddenly the room is alive. Little feet patter. Eyes scan shelves. Someone proudly holds up a toy pig like they’ve just discovered buried treasure.
Then we slow it down.
“P-i-g.”
We tap the sounds. We stretch them out. We blend them back together. Pig.
Next, tiny fingers trace the letters. In the air. On the table. In sand. On whiteboards. We write them. Sometimes wobbly. Sometimes backwards. Always celebrated.
And just like that, reading becomes physical. It becomes playful. It becomes something they do, not something that’s done to them.
For our children with English as an additional language, this approach is powerful. They’re not just memorising a word. They’re connecting sound to object. Hearing it. Saying it. Seeing it. Touching it. Writing it. The word isn’t floating in space anymore, it has roots.
When a child can hold the pig, say the sounds, trace the letters and write the word, we’re building more than phonics skills. We’re building confidence. Vocabulary. Understanding. A bridge between home language and English.
It looks like play.
It sounds like giggles.
But underneath? Serious learning is happening. 🐷✨

It's been a busy week this week at Aspire from a Montessori lens, practical life is not about keeping the room tidy for the adults. It is about giving children the quiet confidence of “I can do this”.
Cleaning up, wiping tables, sweeping crumbs, preparing snack, pouring their own drink… these are not filler activities while we wait for “real learning” to begin. This is the learning. For EYFS children, practical life skills build independence, coordination, focus, and a deep sense of responsibility for their environment.
When a child clears their own plate or carefully returns resources to the shelf, they are practising far more than good manners. They are developing fine and gross motor skills, sequencing, problem solving, and self-regulation. There is also something powerful that happens emotionally. Children feel trusted. Capable. Needed.
Montessori teaches us to slow down and allow children time to do these tasks properly, even when it would be quicker for an adult to step in. Spills happen. Cloths get wrung out too much. The floor might need sweeping twice. That is part of the process, not a failure of it.
In an EYFS setting, practical life fits beautifully across the framework.
• Physical development through real, purposeful movements
• Personal, social and emotional development through independence and self-worth
• Communication and language through modelling, naming tools, and shared routines
• Understanding the world by caring for a shared space and learning how things work
Preparing food or tidying the environment is also about respect. Respect for the child, respect for materials, and respect for the community we share. Children learn that their actions matter and that they belong.
When we invite children to clean up and prepare alongside us, rather than doing it to or for them, we are saying: “You are capable. You are trusted. You are an active part of this space.”
And that lesson stays with them far beyond the broom 🧹

We have our very own Alford 💞

Our new felt farmyard and spring board has landed, and it feels very us 🌱🐑
We live in a rural, farming community. Fields, tractors, lambs in spring, muddy boots by the door. For our children, this isn’t a storybook world, it’s their everyday. This board reflects that. It gives language to what they already see, hear and experience, and helps them make sense of the place they belong to.
This is cultural capital in action. Children exploring farm life through play, talking about where food comes from, recognising animals, seasons and jobs that matter in our community. It builds confidence, vocabulary and a sense of pride in their local world.
The felt pieces invite storytelling, role play and curiosity. Children can recreate what they know, ask questions about what they don’t, and connect learning to real life. That connection is powerful.
This isn’t just a pretty resource. It’s a bridge between home, community and learning, rooted firmly in the lives our children are living right now 🌾

We’ve been busy refreshing our shelves and spaces ready for spring, and I’m really proud of the resources we’ve added this term 🌱🚜
Our farming and spring theme isn’t just about animals and mud. It’s about cultural capital too. Real stories, real images, real experiences that help children make sense of the world beyond their own front door. From where food comes from to the people who grow it, these resources spark curiosity and build understanding in a way that feels natural and joyful.
Alongside that, we’ve introduced new resources for our termly focus on feelings and emotions. These support children to name what’s going on inside them, notice it in others and learn that all feelings are allowed, even the tricky ones.
Our book corner has had a lovely update as well. We now have a wider range of stories showing all kinds of families, because children deserve to see themselves reflected and to learn that families don’t all look the same. We’ve also added books exploring migration, helping children gently understand different journeys and backgrounds in an age-appropriate way, linking beautifully with British Values like respect, tolerance and kindness.
Everything we choose has purpose. It’s about giving children language, confidence and a wider view of the world, one story, one conversation and one muddy spring activity at a time 🌼

✨ Playdough & Early Learning for All Ages 🌈👐

Playdough is a super tool for learning! From babies to preschoolers, children can explore, create, and develop skills across all 7 areas of learning. Pair it with our easy no-cook recipe 🥣, and you’ve got a hands-on activity for hours of fun!

How Playdough Supports the 7 Areas of Learning

1. Communication & Language 🗣️

Babies: Listen to words like “squish,” “roll,” “soft” and copy sounds.

Toddlers & preschoolers: Name colours, describe what they’re making, and chat with friends.

2. Physical Development 💪

Babies: Pat, poke, and grab ✋

Toddlers: Roll, squeeze, flatten, and cut shapes ✂️

Preschoolers: Shape letters, numbers, or more complex models 🏰
Strengthens fine motor skills needed for feeding, dressing, and writing.

3. Personal, Social & Emotional Development 💛

Playdough is calming and helps children regulate emotions 😌.

It encourages sharing, taking turns, and cooperative play 🤝.

4. Literacy Foundations 📖

Follow simple instructions (“Roll it,” “Make a ball”)

Older children can form letters, shapes, and even words ✏️

Listening and talking about creations supports language development.

5. Mathematics 🔢

Babies: Explore big vs small

Toddlers: Count pieces or shapes

Preschoolers: Create patterns, compare lengths, measure shapes 📏

Early maths is natural, hands-on, and fun!

6. Understanding the World 🌍

Playdough encourages curiosity:

Explore textures, colours, and cause & effect 🟡🔵

Older children can mix colours, notice changes, and pretend-play different worlds 🏞️

7. Expressive Arts & Design 🎨

Babies explore with hands

Toddlers start making shapes, animals, pretend food 🍌🍎

Preschoolers can build detailed models, imaginative scenes, or themed creations 🏰🛸

Creativity and imagination have no limits! ✨

Pair this guide with our recipe & method images 🥄 for a fun, sensory activity that grows with your child, supporting development from 0–5 years!
