The grant ended but we will keep the project ideas alive with activities to help the climate crisis. About the Alford Green Hub
Located at the old Alford academy school site, the Alford Green Hub was the name given to the Climate Challenge Fund project which provided nearly £200,000 of capital grants towards Alford and District Men’s Shed(ADMS) The grant was used to upgrade the ADMS building and grounds in line with the grant requirements & guidelines. Although the grant was completed early in 2021, the ideas that underpinned it continue to drive what we are doing. We have decided that it is worth keeping the spirit of that project alive as we move forward. So please check out our website ( http://www.alfordmensshed.org.uk/green-hub.html) to see what’s going on, for ideas and to see how you can contribute in your everyday life by changing or doing your bit. What is Alford Green Hub? Alford Green Hub, as funded by the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund, has provided funds for the restoration and refurbishment of the old Technical Subjects block of the former Alford Academy to a very high standard of thermal efficiency. We have also organised evening meetings on home insulation and energy and sought to promote projects which decarbonise the way we live. In addition growing and consuming locally produced food was a priority and the grant provided for a large polytunnel, the fencing, water supplies to the allotments and a community orchard. We have also been in a position to produce a local food leaflet which allows us to keep connected with our local producers. We have promoted a repair and reuse culture which also ties us nicely into the ADMS.
