***SCOTTISH WATER DRAINWATER/SEWAGE PREVENTION - ROAD WORKS IN DALREOCH, DUMBARTON - THE AFFECT ON ALEXANDRIA***

Through community concern via this social media and elsewhere, Alexandria Community Council have been made aware of the great impact that the five-way temporary traffic signal setup at Glasgow Road, Renton Road, West Bridgend and the access road to Dalreoch railway station (along with lane closures) has caused locally.

Deliveries, public transport and taxi services have all been impacted.

Cardross Road/Carman Hill area was has been busy with traffic causing its own issues, adding to the concerns already raised with Alexandria CC about this road.

Jackie Baillie MSP is currently having conversations with relevant parties involved regarding this after concerns shared from the community (which have been kindly shared by members of the community).

From an Alexandria point of view, Alexandria CC are looking for comments on how this is impacting the local community, although this is not limited as with previous collations.

All relevant comments will be put on file and shared with the relevant authorities depending on the outcome in the coming days (if any).

Dear Mr McCormack,

Thank you very much for writing to me on behalf of Alexandria Community Council regarding concerns about First Bus services following the timetable changes introduced in March 2025.

I appreciate the time taken by the Community Council to gather feedback from residents and highlight the impact these changes are having on local communities. The concerns you raise regarding service reliability, journey times, accessibility, frequency, and the effect on disabled and vulnerable passengers must be addressed.

In light of the issues outlined in your correspondence, I have written to First Bus seeking a response to the concerns raised and asking them to review the points you have highlighted.

I have also suggested that they meet with representatives from Alexandria Community Council to review the data and discuss potential changes.

Thank you for bringing this matter to my attention. I will of course update you as soon as I have received a reply from First Bus.

Alexandria Community Council work on behalf of the community of the town of Alexandria with respect.

West Dunbartonshire Council and the Scottish Parliament alongside other departments are not above genuine criticism and we will support this with a firm hand.

However, Alexandria Community Council will not tolerate personal abuse towards an individual in any manner or nor we will allow any comments which includes unproven allegations of criminal intent which can lead to legal issues.

Alexandria Community Council have clear rules on this which is included in the Alexandria CC Notice Board. These rules also stand in our main page.

The breaking of these rules may lead to a ban and are considered on an individual basis with a fair minded approach.

Good afternoon Cllr Bollan,

I have discussed this matter with colleagues in Greenspace, who have confirmed that the issue with the toilets was due to a lack of staffing resources to facilitate opening, closing and cleaning.

I am pleased to advise that this has now been resolved, and it is anticipated that the facilities will reopen in mid-September.

***WDC RESPONSE ON RESIDENTS' CONCERNS ON THREE-WEEKLY BIN COLLECTION – COUNCILLOR DAVID MCBRIDE, CONVENER OF INFRASTRUCTURE, REGENERATION AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT (IRED)***

Thank you for writing and for sharing the collation of resident views on the three‑weekly residual waste collection. I appreciate the work the Community Council has put into gathering feedback, and I recognise the strength of feeling expressed by many of those who responded.

I want to acknowledge at the outset that a number of the issues raised — particularly missed pull‑outs, confusion over routes, and delays in bin replacements — were largely the result of the route changes being introduced at the same time as the move to the three‑weekly collection. That overlap created disruption which understandably caused frustration for residents.

As far as I understand, these operational issues have improved significantly since the rollout, and crews are now familiar with the new routes.

It is also important to set out the wider context behind the change.

The Scottish Government has set ambitious national targets to achieve zero waste to landfill and all local authorities are required to contribute to waste‑reduction targets, deliver programmes that increase resilience, and operate in a more sustainable way. West Dunbartonshire is not alone in adopting this model — thirteen other Scottish councils have already moved to three‑weekly or longer residual waste cycles, and Falkirk and Stirling now operate on a four‑weekly basis.

Although we do not yet have finalised figures, the early indications are that residual waste has reduced significantly since the change, and recycling rates have increased. This is clearly positive for both the environment and the Council’s finances.

Every tonne diverted from landfill reduces disposal costs, and those savings can be redirected into other essential services. Food waste collections also remain fortnightly, which helps address concerns around hygiene and odour.

***ALEXANDRIA CC CORRESPONDENCE TO FIRST BUS GLASGOW, ALL WDC COUNCILLORS, JACKIE BAILLIE MSP, DOUGLAS MCALLISTER MP AND STRATHCLYDE PASSENGER TRANSPORT - IN RELATION TO MAJOR PUBLIC CONCERN FOR BUS SERVICES 1,1A,204,205 AND 206***

Dear all,

Alexandria Community Council raise major community concern about the current bus service provision by First Bus Glasgow since the timetable change which took effect from March 2025.

This initially began as a concern about the changes to Services 1/1A Balloch to Glasgow (via Alexandria) being curtailed to Dumbarton and the reintroduction of 204/205 to cover the remaining route including Alexandria. 204 (via Dalmonach) and 205 (via Levenvale and Vale of Leven Hospital) now running a 40-minute timetable each. The outcome is that residents now travelling beyond Dumbarton ASDA having to make 2 bus journeys. The view of the community was that the bus service was now inadequate for the need required.

Through the helpful assistance of Jackie Baillie MSP and Councillors Ian Dickson and Jim Bollan, we communicated our concerns with First Bus on the matter for a long period without any progress forward. This included a potential compromise of bus service being reinstated to Clydebank if not Glasgow. The general response was that through their data, passenger numbers reflect that the change is working and there were no plans to revert back to the old timetables and routes. This is not the information Alexandria CC are getting from residents.

To help Alexandria CC get an overview of the resident concerns, a series of online discussions via our Facebook platforms were created to let people have their say on the experiences. This included polls and comments collation.

From the discussions, the concern about current services of First Bus has gone beyond the initial concern. The change to service 206 (Haldane to Westcliff via Alexandria) in March 2025 to cover the former 1B route between Westcliff and Helensburgh has raised further issues, including inconsistent service timetable reliability.
The resident views collation on all the above was participated by over 100 people and are attached with this letter to give the full information on residents’ concerns and anger. A summary of issues is listed below:
• Buses not running to timetable.
• Inadequate services including a timetable run every 40 minutes peak time in some areas. This includes area with only 1 service route available
• Bus fares not value for money.
• Disabled and vulnerable people being caused great distress with the new 2 bus journey required between Balloch and Glasgow, particularly in winter.
• Buses running late or not arriving at all on a regular basis affecting people’s schedules including work and health appointments.
• Communication issues when raising individual complaint.
• Pressure put on bus drivers.
• Criticism on condition of some bus vehicles.

Alexandria CC recommend that these concerns described are taken on board and a rethink is required. The status quo is not sustainable, and the local Alexandria community and surrounding area is suffering greatly.
