40 mph limit to apply on A325 at Pennefather's Road, Aldershot

Works to implement the extension of the 40-mph speed limit on the A325 are going ahead.

"This follows a safety survey of 500 Wellesley residents in 2023 that called for the speed limit to be reduced," said Cllr Alex Crawford, who did the survey with his colleague, Cllr Dhan Sarki, and submitted the results to a Safety Audit conducted by Hampshire Highways.

The works on the new section of 40-mph speed limit on the A325, will be from the existing 40mph limit north to the start of the dual carriageway section beyond the Pennefather's Road junction. It comprises separate sections, including changes of the 50-mph sign to read 40 mph, repeater signing/amendments to the warning signs, and the electrical works for lit signing units that will house the signs at the end of the section.

This work will be followed by the implementation of the additional warning lining and removal of the old red pad and 40-mph sign in conjunction with the A325 resurfacing works, currently planned for June.

The works have been planned to attempt to alleviate the disruption to the road users on the A325, and it is important for Hampshire Highways lining contractors to take advantage of any opportunity to work when the road surface is reasonably dry, which has resulted in the slightly early change of the 50-mph roundel to 40 mph.

The remaining signing and electrical works for the lit signs are programmed for works in stages over the next three weeks, ideally completing implementation of all the works by the 20 March.
