Step by Step

Step by Step Taking a stand against youth homelessness and its causes We passionately believe in supporting local young people who are going through hard times.

We provide accommodation, specialist support, and personal development opportunities that identify and fulfil aspirations. Working alongside young people in this way empowers them to become thriving members of the community.

Young care leavers are up to four times more likely to die young.

That's the shocking finding of a new government review. Nearly one in five of the deaths studied happened at exactly 18: the moment statutory support disappears.

This is the cliff edge we work every day to stop young people falling from. Read the findings, and our response 👉www.stepbystep.org.uk/news/young-care-leavers-up-to-four-times-more-likely-to-die-young-we-see-why-every-day/

Daniel’s life was out of control when he came to Step by Step. The 16 year-old was abusing drugs and involved with gangs. He had arrests for violence and was abusive towards his family.

The fact he was able to turn things around is testament to his hard work and determination, and the transformative support of our Launch service.

A huge thank you to Ian Barnett, who took on the Helsinki Marathon for Step by Step and crossed the Finish (yes, Finnish!) line in a brilliant 4:07:29.

Ian has raised an amazing £1,248 so far to support young people facing homelessness, helping us provide safe places to live, wellbeing support, and the guidance they need to build a brighter future.

Thank you Ian, and thank you to everyone who cheered him on and donated along the way!!

Donations are still open, so if you'd like to add to Ian's total, you can do so via the link below.

Wondering if your dog, cat, or other furry family member might get in the way of fostering? 🐾

Good news: having pets doesn't stop you from becoming a foster carer. In fact, for a young person who's known a lot of upheaval, the calm and routine of a pet can be a real comfort.

What matters is that your home is safe, stable, and the right fit. Our latest article walks you through what we look at during the fostering assessment, and why pets are so often a positive part of the picture.
