A great night at our Commanding Officer’s Inspection for Airdrie & Coatbridge Sea Cadets! ⚓

It was a chance to take a step back and recognise everything our cadets have achieved over the last month—and as always, they did us proud.

Here’s just some of what’s been achieved recently:

👏 Promotions – including 2 Junior Cadet badges and a well-earned step up!
📘 2 Junior Cadet modules completed and awarded
🎖️ 3 Good Conduct badges (another year of staying out of trouble… mostly 😄)
⚙️ 1 Intermediate Marine Engineering qualification
🍳 2 catering qualifications at Basic & Intermediate level

A special mention to AC Boyle, who accepted on behalf of all cadets the certificate for our unit’s nomination for the Indefatigable Cup—something everyone should be really proud of.

Massive well done to all our cadets. It’s brilliant to see the effort, progress, and teamwork paying off 👏

A fantastic start to the boating season for Airdrie & Coatbridge Sea Cadets! ⚓

A small group of our cadets kicked things off down at Port Edgar by successfully completing their swim test and taking part in a rowing taster session. Every single one of them did amazing, showing great effort, confidence, and teamwork throughout. They did fantastic in the swim test despite the cold sea water!

The swim test is an important step before getting on the water, helping ensure our cadets are safe, confident, and prepared for boating activities.

During the rowing taster, cadets were introduced to the basics including parts of the boat, how to safely launch and recover, and the fundamentals of rowing technique—working together to keep rhythm, control, and direction on the water.

Sadly, Finn the dolphin didn’t make an appearance this time… maybe he’s still hibernating! 🐬😄

A huge thank you to Veterans Community Lanarkshire for their continued support and the loan of the minibus. Without this vital support, we wouldn’t be able to attend as many events and boating days in the numbers that we do.

We’re incredibly proud of them all and can’t wait to see even more cadets getting out on the water in the weeks ahead. Here’s to a brilliant boating season! 🚣‍♂️🌊

⚓ Join Us!
We’re always on the lookout for new cadets and adult volunteers to get involved. If you’re interested in adventure, learning new skills, making friends, and getting out on the water, we’d love to hear from you!

⚓ A Very Special Achievement for Airdrie & Coatbridge Sea Cadets ⚓

To round off our posts celebrating the successes of 2025, we have some fantastic news to share.

Earlier this month our Commanding Officer attended the Northern Area Sea Cadet Conference, where he was presented with a certificate from Captain Sea Cadets confirming that Airdrie & Coatbridge Sea Cadets have been nominated for the TS Indefatigable Cup.

This national award is presented to the unit in the UK that has shown the most significant improvement over the previous 12 months — and being nominated means our unit is officially one of the top 6 most improved Sea Cadet units in the UK. 🇬🇧

And when you look at the progress over the last year, it’s easy to see why…

📈 Unit Growth
• Junior Cadets: 0 ➜ 7 (after reopening in Dec 2024)
• Senior Cadets: 5 ➜ 11 (over 100% growth)
• Adult Volunteers: 6 ➜ 12

🎓 Training Success
• Adult instructor qualifications: 2 ➜ 15
• Cadet courses attended: 60 ➜ 233
• Specialisations & proficiencies: 2 ➜ 57
• Waterborne qualifications: 5 ➜ 70

⚓ On the Water
• Total boating hours: 95 ➜ 840 hours

🌍 Community Impact
• Community events: 4 ➜ 23
• Over £5,500 raised through fundraising

🏠 Unit Improvements
• Classroom upgrades and a dedicated seamanship area
• New office space and improved galley
• Security fencing and upgraded fire alarm system
• New IT equipment to support cadet training

Over the last year we’ve also reopened our Junior Section, increased to two parade nights per week, held our first ever unit camp, strengthened links with the local community, and supported events across North Lanarkshire.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to keep the momentum going and are looking forward to an even more successful 2026, with more training, more time on the water, more community events, and even more opportunities for our cadets to develop and achieve.

None of this would have been possible without the hard work of our cadets, volunteers, committee members, families and supporters who continue to help the unit grow.

⚓ Want to be part of our next success story?

We’re always looking for new cadets (10–18) and adult volunteers to join the team.
