Have you ever wondered if you can walk your dog at NT Formby. We caught up with ranger Justin to find out more…
"You’re welcome to bring your dog with you whilst you explore. Here’s my top tips for a safe and enjoyable visit:
🥵𝐇𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 - there's not much shade so on hot days it might be best to let your dog chill at home, head out early morning or later in the evening when it's cooler. Dogs can also overheat quickly if left in cars.
🖐 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 – need a lead or some water for your dog? Pop and see the welcome team and they’ll help if they can.
⚠️𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐬 - all kinds of interesting things wash up on the beach. In amongst the treasures there can be harmful objects, so we suggest not letting your dog eat anything on the beach.
🐕 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 - whether your pup is on a lead, walking to heel, or responding reliably to recall commands, we appreciate your efforts. This helps protect wildlife and ensures a pleasant visit for everyone.
💩𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐩𝐨𝐨𝐩 - when your dog does their business, please pick it up. Taking it with you helps maintain the natural balance of this special space for wildlife. Dog waste encourages nettles to grow and hinders delicate wildflowers that thrive in nutrient-poor soils.
🗑️ 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝 - like many wild countryside places, you won’t find small bins. This is to protect wildlife by reducing rubbish hotspots and the risk of bin fires. Look out for the large car park bins or use nearby pavement bins. If you don’t pass a bin please take it home with you.
🐾 𝐃𝐨𝐠𝐬 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐭 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐑𝐨𝐚𝐝- keep an eye out for our partners from Dogs Trust, they’ll be here once a month to give dog owners top tips on training and welfare."
