On Friday we hosted a wonderful preview evening to celebrate the opening of our inaugural Art Trail 📷🌿

Nearly 100 people joined us to discover York Gate through the lens of local photographer Sam Booth, enjoying his beautiful images of the garden.

The Art Trail is now open and runs until 1 November during normal garden opening times. Standard admission applies.

The prints are also available to order in our gift shop, so you can take your favourite view of York Gate home with you.

Our Garden Art Trail opens tomorrow 📷🌿

A rather soggy day at York Gate last week! 🌧️🌿

Our garden team and volunteers have been out in the meadow, making the most of some very welcome rain after such a dry summer.

Simon from the garden team was joined by our garden volunteers and Kira, our new trainee, who certainly got a wet introduction to life at York Gate!

And they had a little company along the way too 🦗

The weather might be a little different from our sunny volunteer BBQ last week, but the garden is certainly appreciating the rain 💚

The San Pedro cactus, Echinopsis pachanoi, is flowering today. It’s definitely a rare treat 🌵

The flowers can be short-lived, so we’re not sure how long it will last, but if you’re visiting this weekend, you might be lucky enough to see it!

A big thank you to our fabulous York Gate volunteers 🌿

It was lovely to bring so many of our volunteers together for lunch and to spend time celebrating everything they do for the garden.

From welcoming visitors to supporting events, plant sales, the café, shop and the care of the garden, York Gate simply wouldn’t be the same without them.

Thank you to every volunteer who gives their time, energy and kindness to York Gate. We couldn’t do it without you 💚

During one of the hottest summers on record, Senior Gardener Chris Koritsas spoke to BBC News Look North about how the team are adapting to prolonged hot and dry weather at York Gate 🌿

Despite the heat, Chris and the team are managing to maintain the borders with a little creativity, including soaking our hostas in the Venetian cisterns to keep them cool.
