The TEA Project

The TEA Project Go to theteaproject.org to learn more about what we do & to donate support. The T.E.A. Project works to empower Sri Lankan children from poverty.

We provide training, support and guidance to schools, orphanages and grass roots organisations; working directly with marginalised, vulnerable children and young people from poor communities. The project helps give young people a voice. A voice which develops ambition, skills, knowledge and opportunities for underprivileged children. Unlocking a child’s hidden potential. Children need to feel valu

ed as important individuals with active rights; principles that will help guide their futures. Every child should grow respecting diversity and experience how helping others is a basic human right. We believe passionately that developing skills, aspirations and confidence in young people is key to securing a positive & sustainable future for the next generation. For generations, tea plantation communities have carried the weight of Sri Lanka’s tea industry on their shoulders, yet many families still continue to face poverty, inequality, and limited opportunities.

At The T.E.A. Project, we witness these realities closely through the children and families we work with in tea plantation communities. This is why education, empowerment, nutrition, skills development, and safe spaces for children matter more than ever.

Every child deserves dignity, opportunity, and hope for a better future.

Together, we can help break the cycle. ❤️

Today, we had a lovely and meaningful parents’ meeting at Tiny T.E.A. Preschool ❤️

We would like to sincerely thank all the parents who attended and shared their thoughts with us. During the meeting, we discussed the children’s progress, upcoming term schedule, activities, and the importance of working together to support every child’s development.

Many of the families we support come from disadvantaged tea plantation communities and continue to face social and economic challenges, especially during the current crisis. It was truly touching to hear parents express how valuable and important these services are for their children and families. Their appreciation reminded us why this work matters so much.

Thank you to all the parents for trusting us, supporting their children’s education, and being part of this journey together 🌱✨

From a small grassroots initiative in 2014 to a recognised UK Charity and registered INGO in Sri Lanka, our journey has been driven by one mission — empowering vulnerable children and underserved communities through Training, Empowerment, and Awareness.

Over the past 10 years, The T.E.A. Project has worked alongside children, families, schools, volunteers, community leaders, grassroots organisations, and partners to create safe spaces, opportunities, and hope for the next generation.

Through education, nutrition, safeguarding, leadership training, empowerment programmes, and community development initiatives, we have impacted thousands of children across Sri Lanka’s tea plantation communities and underserved regions.

Today, as we expand our services into the Badulla region, our mission continues stronger than ever — reaching more children, strengthening more communities, and building brighter futures together.

This journey would not have been possible without the incredible support of our partners, volunteers, donors, and supporters around the world. ❤️

Join Our Mission

We warmly welcome organisations, businesses, volunteers, and individuals who would like to become part of this meaningful journey through partnerships, CSR initiatives, sponsorships, volunteering, and community development collaborations.

We are delighted to share some exciting news — The T.E.A. Project is expanding its services to the Badulla region. This marks a significant milestone for us following the completion of our 10th anniversary celebrations last September.

As part of this expansion, we will be establishing an office in Badulla and recruiting two staff members alongside volunteers to support our outreach programmes. We are also pleased to announce that we have received approval from the Uva Provincial Department of Education to implement our Empowerment Programme in the region.

Today, we had a very productive meeting with 11 principals from the Badulla District, opening doors to new opportunities to reach and support more children and the wider community.

Thank you for being a valued partner in this journey and for your continued support ❤️

Every Friday, we run practical ICT sessions for children living near our Centre, especially those from disadvantaged tea plantation communities.

These free classes help children build confidence with computers, develop basic digital skills, and explore new learning opportunities for their future.

At The T.E.A. Project, we believe every child deserves access to education, technology, and the chance to dream bigger.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Jerry Smith, one of our most valued and long-standing supporters.

Jerry was a truly lovely man — compassionate, calm, and quietly generous in all that he did. Together with his beloved wife, Sally, he stood beside us for many years, offering unwavering support in ways both big and small. His kindness was never loud, but always deeply felt.

Alongside Sally, Jerry played a significant role in helping us find the very place where our Centre for Children’s Empowerment – The Cloud now stands in Kithulmulla, Galaha. Because of them, that space has become a place of hope, growth, and opportunity for so many disadvantaged children.

Jerry’s warmth, gentle spirit, and genuine care for others will never be forgotten. His legacy lives on not only through the work we do, but in every child whose life has been touched by that space.

Rest in peace, dear Jerry. 💙🙏
Your memory will remain with us always.

Our heartfelt thoughts are with Sally, his family, and all who knew and loved him. 🕊
