What if you were moving home and couldnā€™t remember your housing options, but you still knew exactly what you wanted?

Emma* had a brain injury that affected her memory. She had been assessed as not having the mental capacity to decide where she should live, but Emma still had views about where she wanted to live. Her Advocate found a way to help Emma show what mattered to her.

From describing homes as ā€œthe one with the green gateā€ to using simple cards showing what she did and didnā€™t want, small changes made a big difference in helping Emma communicate her views.

Advocacy is about taking the time to communicate in a way that works for someone, understand what matters to them, and make sure their views are listened to.
