Last month on Saturday 12th September 2026, Prospects attended the BBC Lancashire Make a Difference awards ceremony at Lancaster Town Hall where we were treated to afternoon tea and a very special show.

We were nominated for their environmental award, and made it to the top four!

Unfortunately, we didn't win, but we still received a lovely runners-up trophy and were very honoured to have made it so far.

The winner of the environmental award was Glynis Goldsbrough, who has run the Schools Sustainability Learning Conference for 20 years. We always have a great time at the conference, which attracts schools from all over Lancashire, so we can definitely say it was well-earned!

Today the Hyndburn's Woodlands Volunteers were back at Whinney Hill woodland for some more Hazel Hurdle fence making at our Butterfly Glade!

Unfortunately, our previous attempt had been vandalised, however, we managed to make use of the now spare materials for an even bigger and better hurdle fence!

Volunteers used axes to fashion stakes from locally coppiced Hazel and billhooks to sned our weaving material.

We think it looks fantastic and should add even more aesthetic value to our beautiful butterfly glade 🦋

Explore Arden Hall this Sunday with a free and family-friendly guided nature walk! 🍁 🍂 🎃

📆: Sunday 18th October
🕐: 1pm-3pm
📍: Arden Hall gates, Accrington, BB5 2DQ.

We will be hunting for signs of autumn such as mushrooms, berries, and fallen leaves!

Well-behaved dogs welcome, under 18s must have parent/guardian supervision.

There will be an autumn scavenger hunt for kids to fill out and also the option to litter pick if you would like.

No need to book, just turn up!

Last Tuesday 29th September the Hyndburn's Woodlands Project held our first 'Hedgehog Home Workshop' at Bank Mill House Senior Centre!

Prior to the session starting, attendees were given an extremely informative talk by Donna from Willow Top Hedgehog Rescue! Donna taught participants all about hedgehogs and how to care for them and their new homes!🦔

For this project, we utilised upcycled pallet wood (Heat Treated) and nails! Participants followed instructions provided by Go Wild and they made some amazing looking homes!

Thank you to everyone for coming along, we hope your creations get used very soon by hibernating Hedgehogs, and also a huge thank you to Donna for coming out and the amazing work she does!

We are all set up with our re-fill stall Towneley Hall Art Gallery & Museum Burnley Nature Festival! Come find us between 10am-3pm, we're right next to the Italian Garden and hall.

Come along to try out our eco-friendly washing-up liquid, laundry liquid, hand soap and more! We have some spare empty containers, but you can bring your own.

There are tonnes of stalls attending with FREE family friendly crafts, activities, and performances.

We also have loads of information about environmental projects and action going on in Hyndburn, as well as our spin the daisy activity.

Come down to the Coach House at Rhyddings Park in Oswaldtwistle today until 4pm!

Have a fun afternoon today in or outside - depending on the weather - at Rhyddings Park.

Lots of organisations here in and outside the Coach House for the health and happiness event, on now until 4pm.

The Friends of Jackhouse are next to Prospects Hyndburn. Come and say hello and try our nature and health quizzes😀

The Brookside Restoration Volunteers have been hard at work at Brookside over the last couple of weeks!

We've been creating 'Dragon's Nests' around some of the Hazel coppice stools on site! These structures are made to keep nibbling deer away from the new shoots, allowing the Hazel to gain a bit of growth before the deer can get to it 🦌

We've experimented with a couple of different styles (mainly for aesthetic purposes) and we think the volunteers have made some excellent nests!

We've also used the resulting brash to create a few habitat piles, especially important at this time of year since Hedgehogs will soon be hibernating 🦔
