Sorry, it has been a while since I last posted, but as you will see, there has been quite a bit going on.

Lots of work at Martholme and the start of the works at Simonstone. See the images below.

Hi All

Martholme Greenway now has 2000+ followers. Despite being banned from the Great Harwood Show on a load of hear say with no right to appeal, the exact words from the secretary of the Great Harwood Agricultural Society were "even it is written in stone by God, WE can do what we want"!!! Watch this space for what happens next.

A huge thanks to all of you for your support.

A few images from the works at Martholme over the past couple of weekends. Marking out for the works to start on the top of the viaduct, balsam pulling, and cutting back at the Sidings area.

Also, the works today on the top of the viaduct to level the path and resurfacing and preparation for the next phase. More to follow regarding this.

Hi All

A few images from Saturdays work group. We have been removing the ivy from the fence at the top of the steps at Simonstone, along with cutting the ivy on the trees in the same area. Cutting the ivy prevents it damaging the fence, strangling the trees, and reduces the wind loading on the trees in winter, making them less likely to be blown down.

Hi All

A quick update on the Great Harwood Show saga. I, as the chairman of Martholme Greenway, finally got a response from the chairman of the Great Harwood Show Society. This post will be the last on this matter until this is resolved as it is likely to run a long course....

The chairman informed me that despite the email saying that it was one of the committee members who had raised the complaint, it was a third party that had nothing to do with the owners of the caravan park or the Great Harwood Show Committee. A little odd, but OK.

The complaint appears to be a lot of hear say with no evidence and no substance. Details will follow when appropriate.

I asked about a complaint procedure but was informed that they had none, this is a little odd if someone who may or may not be a member of the committee had made a complaint!!! I suggest that this was a little odd and was told, " We are a volunteer group and can do what we want." I suggest this was a little odd as the Martholme Greenway group is also a volunteer group but has to adhere to the rules. Take this as you wish.

There was also no suggestion of any issues with trading practices!! Again, odd.

When queried, why if there was an issue with the Martholme Greenway, why had we been invited to make an application. I was confronted with the statement, "What we asked for an application from you." This was followed by lots of changes to the idea that they had an automated system brought in last year that was only implemented this year???

I asked why if they had had this complaint at the show, no one had come to discuss this with us at the time. At this point, it changed to be thar the complaint was made after. Remember, there is no complaints procedure!!!! Again, Odd.

I then asked when the decision to not let us have a pitch due to the complaint (which can not happen as they have no complaints procedure) was made before or after our application, which they requested, the response was "well oh err well I uh think it was after" Again a little odd as if the complaint was made, originally at the show last year which changed to after when I discussed this with the chairman!!!

As stated, this will be the last post on this matter until this is resolved. As it appears, it will need to involve third parties.

What do you think about the response to the Martholme Greenways application to have a stand at the Great Harwood Agricultural Show.

"After careful consideration, we regret to inform you that your application has not been successful on this occasion. This decision has been made following a review of feedback from last year’s event, including a formal complaint raised by a committee member, as well as concerns relating to trading practices that were brought to our attention.

We take such matters seriously in order to ensure a safe, fair, and reputable environment for all participants, visitors, and traders. As a result, we are unable to offer you a tradestand space for the upcoming event."

We have had the same stand with the same information, tombola and key ring sales (all through donations to the Martholme Greenway group). Last year had no change in any of this hence are dumb struck with this response. No indication of the trading practices that may, or may not have been breached.

We have had no suggestion of any complaint by any member of the committee and hence no chance to respond to any such supposed complaint. Who has made the complaint, we have not been informed of this and hence are unable to decide if it might just be some committee member who has a personal grudge against the Martholme Greenway project.

We feel that this is victimisation and possibly discrimatory.

Just a short work day this morning due to the weather. Removal of a fallen Ash tree in Gooseleach wood that had succumbed to Ash Dieback and was brought down by the winds last week.

Also, a couple of images of the cherry trees at the top of the steps onto the Simonstone section. What a stunning welcome onto the greenway.

Just a few images from the work day this morning, taking down some of the damaged and dangerous trees around the Martholme site at Great Harwood.

More good news: Martholme Greenway has just secured a grant from Ribble Valley for further work along the path.
