Hi All

Hot off the press.

We are looking to run some more drystone walling courses over at the Simonstone section of the Greenway. These will be working on the damaged sections of the drystone walls in Gooseleach wood.

There will be a nominal charge for this as we are applying for grants to aid in this along with Martholme greenway part funding places as per the last time we ran these courses.

If you are interested in learning or honing this skill the courses will be run by the same professional drystone waller with over 30 years of experience from the previous courses.

Hi All

No working groups at the moment due to holidays etc. We should be back at it on Saturday 15th August. this will be at the Mill Lane end on the path at Great Harwood. Prospects have been doing a great job of keeping the brash at bay and keeping the path open. We will be doing some tidying up etc.

A huge thanks to the members and attendees of Community Cafe at Read for the donation of a new strimmer to the Martholme Greenway group.

This will make a massive difference to the workload for the volunteers working on the footpaths.

Few images from the past weeks activities at Simonstone.

Today, there was a tree branch blocking the path at the top of the steps off Simonstone lane. This has now been cleared.

The other images are of the works carried out in preparation for the new surface to go down along the full length of the path from Simonstone lane to the far side of Gooseleach wood.

Hi All

Martholme Greenway now has 2000+ followers. Despite being banned from the Great Harwood Show on a load of hear say with no right to appeal, the exact words from the secretary of the Great Harwood Agricultural Society were "even it is written in stone by God, WE can do what we want"!!! Watch this space for what happens next.

A few images from the works at Martholme over the past couple of weekends. Marking out for the works to start on the top of the viaduct, balsam pulling, and cutting back at the Sidings area.

Also, the works today on the top of the viaduct to level the path and resurfacing and preparation for the next phase. More to follow regarding this.

Hi All

A few images from Saturdays work group. We have been removing the ivy from the fence at the top of the steps at Simonstone, along with cutting the ivy on the trees in the same area. Cutting the ivy prevents it damaging the fence, strangling the trees, and reduces the wind loading on the trees in winter, making them less likely to be blown down.
