As the blessed month of Ramadan draws near (expected around 17 February 2026), a time of profound reflection, heightened devotion, and increased generosity, we are reminded of our duty to those less fortunate.

While we prepare to fast and seek Allah's mercy, millions of our brothers and sisters face a relentless, silent fast of poverty and hunger. This Ramadan, the Sanyang UK Association invites you to turn your compassion into life-changing action. We are launching our annual Ramadan Sugar Appeal to provide essential sugar parcels to families, ensuring they can experience the dignity and joy of breaking their fast with sustenance.

URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT: REVISED FUNERAL & BURIAL SCHEDULE

Hello friends, family, and community members. Please note this important update regarding the repatriation and funeral arrangements for our beloved Nuha Ceesay.

The flight date has been revised:
• NEW ARRIVAL DATE: Friday, November 14, 2025 (Arrival in The Gambia at 8:00 PM)
• BURIAL: Saturday, November 15, 2025

The flight previously scheduled for Thursday, 13/11/2025, has been changed due to unavoidable circumstances.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding and continued prayers during this difficult time.

In Loving Memory of a Beloved Son, Brother, Friend and Husband: Nuha Ceesay

The heart of our community is heavy today. The Sanyang UK Association and the Ceesay & Jallow K***a Family announce the devastating loss of our beloved brother, Nuha Ceesay.

On Tuesday, 28th October 2025, Nuha returned to his Lord following a tragic accident at his workplace facility in Bradford, West Yorkshire. A devoted husband and father to six cherished children, Nuha Ceesay was an esteemed member of our community—a man known for his strength, kindness, and dedication. His presence was a source of support, and his passing leaves a void that will be felt by all who knew him in The Gambia and the UK.

We humbly submit to the will of Almighty Allah (SWT).
إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ
("Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed, to Him we shall return.")

We pray that Allah (SWT) accepts his good deeds, forgives his shortcomings, and grants him the highest rank in Jannatul Firdous. May He also grant his wife, children, and entire family immense Sabr (patience) to navigate this profoundly difficult time.

Final Arrangements and Support
The communal Janazah Prayer will take place in Bradford, UK, followed by the repatriation and burial in Nimisack Burial Ground, The Gambia.

We encourage all community members to join the family in fulfilling the rights of the deceased by attending the funeral prayers.

Sanyang UK Association (S**A) Statement on the Sanyang Deep Seaport Project

For Immediate Release

Urgent Human Rights and Land Justice Concerns in Sanyang, The Gambia

The Sanyang UK Association (S**A) expresses deep concern over the Sanyang Deep Seaport project, which threatens to displace over 461 families and businesses without clear legal safeguards, transparent compensation mechanisms, or independent environmental assessments.

The Gambian government, through the Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) and its agreement with Turkish multinational Albayrak Group, has failed to ensure that affected communities are afforded their legal rights under Gambian, regional, and international laws.

We call on the Gambian government to immediately:
✅ Publish an independent Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) before any further development.
✅ Guarantee full, fair, and legally binding compensation for all displaced families.
✅ Ensure meaningful consultation and consent from affected communities in accordance with international human rights laws.
✅ Provide legal protections for landowners and residents at risk of displacement.

Legal Violations & Human Rights Concerns

The Sanyang Deep Seaport project raises serious legal and ethical concerns, including potential violations of:
• The Gambian Land Act, which upholds community land ownership.
• The UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), which guarantees free, prior, and informed consent before land dispossession.
• The African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, which protects land tenure and human dignity.
• The World Bank’s Environmental and Social Framework (ESF), which mandates strict environmental and human rights safeguards for infrastructure projects.

S**A stands in solidarity with the people of Sanyang in their pursuit of justice and protection of their land, livelihoods, and environment.

We urge the international community, human rights organisations, and environmental watchdogs to intervene and demand accountability from the Gambian government.
