What we do

It all started in March 2019 when a couple of music lovers in Abingdon got together to start planning a community music event as part of the global celebrations of music called Make Music Day or Fete de la Musique. We organised our first Make Music Day on June 21st in 2019 with a day full of free workshops, sessions, music in the Market Place and in many local venues. From September 2019 we added a monthly showcase of original music YMSA to provide a platform and a listening environment for artists, and we have witnessed some magical performances in the Guildhall. December 2019 saw us organise a Make Music Winter on the shortest day of the year, which was a smaller indoor version of our summer event - again with free workshops and performances throughout the day. In the build up to Make Music Day 2020 we joined forces with the local Loose Cannon Brewery and arranged a string of Music Cannon nights in their taproom. We had a very succesful first event - and then came Corona.... Music shall and will never be defeated though, so we adapted and went online for our showcases and music cannons. Also Make Music day 2020 goes virtual, and a full day of music and music making awaits you on the longest day of the year.

Thanks for being part of our story and our mission to encourage music and music making in the community - for all ages and all levels of abilities.
