We were delighted to see Air Officer Wales recognised for his recent visit to the Battle Back Centre, commending the outstanding work being carried out there.

Facilities like this play a vital role in supporting wounded and injured service personnel, helping them rebuild confidence, recover, and successfully transition either back into duty or into civilian life. The RBL Recovery Services offer a number of programmes, all designed to assist serving and veterans overcome the barriers and challenges they encounter.

As a branch, we fully support and echo his praise for the dedication shown to our Armed Forces community.

Our Statement in response to President Trump's comments:

The service and sacrifice of British personnel in Afghanistan cannot be called into question, and we condemn any comments that undermine their extraordinary contribution. 457 British personnel lost their lives in Afghanistan and thousands more and their families now live with the lifelong physical and mental impact from service in that conflict.

The dedication and sacrifices of the men and women in the British Armed Forces from the UK, Commonwealth, and beyond, to protect our freedoms and support our allies deserves our deep and ongoing respect and gratitude.

Our nation’s support for our Armed Forces is never in doubt. The Royal British Legion through our ongoing work to recognise, remember, and support the Armed Forces community, ensures that their unique contribution is not forgotten. This recognition is shared across communities, cultures, and faiths.

As we come to the close of the year and look ahead to the New Year, I would like to take a moment, on behalf of the Aberystwyth Royal British Legion Branch, to reflect and give thanks.

For many of us, this season has been a time to spend precious moments with family and friends; sharing memories, warmth, and companionship. We are fortunate to have these opportunities, and they remind us of what truly matters.

At the same time, we remember our Absent Friends. Those we have lost, those who are far from home, and those whose places at the table remain empty. They are never forgotten, and they remain firmly in our thoughts and hearts, especially at this time of year.

We also offer our deepest thanks and respect to the men and women of our Armed Forces who continue to serve over the festive period. This Christmas, 19,000 UK service personnel were deployed or held at readiness: 7,380 on operations across 49 countries, and 11,669 at readiness here in the UK. Their willingness to sacrifice time with their own loved ones so that others may live in safety and peace is something for which we should all be profoundly grateful.

As we welcome the New Year, may we carry forward the spirit of remembrance, gratitude, and support for our Armed Forces community: veterans, serving personnel, volenteers and cadet forces, and their families alike.

On behalf of the Aberystwyth Royal British Legion Branch, we wish you all a peaceful New Year, good health, and continued hope for the months ahead.

Lest we forget.

The Branch would like to extend its sincere thanks to everyone who joined us in Owain Glyndŵr Square today to observe the two minutes’ silence. Your support and presence were deeply appreciated as we came together to remember all those who have served and sacrificed for our freedom.

Please note: due to the recent high winds, the wreaths from the war memorial have been temporarily removed for safekeeping. They will be securely reinstated at the memorial in the coming weeks.

As we come to the end of this year’s Remembrance period, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our wonderful community for once again giving such strong and meaningful support to the Poppy Appeal.
Your generosity, kindness, and continued commitment ensure that the vital work of the Royal British Legion can carry on supporting veterans, serving personnel, and their families.

A special thank you goes to all the businesses and organisations who have helped “light the town red” with stunning window displays, illuminated buildings, and creative tributes. Your efforts have brought the spirit of Remembrance to life throughout our town and have been appreciated by so many. Here are just some of the marks of remembrance spotted throughout town.

Thank you all for helping us honour those who served, those who sacrificed, and those who continue to stand for our freedom.

We will remember them
