Weargate Works

Well 2027 may still be a few months away but it’s already shaping up nicely for Weargate. We have one show in January in Erith which is a totally new part of the country for me to take a layout too, it’s been north east, north west, midlands and south wales so far. Never south east.

But in addition to this and the previously announced Newton Aycliffe show we have just received and accepted an invite to Shildon MRC show at Locomotion 2/3 Oct 2027. This is one of the first shows me and my dad did together and was one we regularly attended both sides of the barrier.

That and the cement trains that inspired the layout would have run right outside the venue makes it particularly poignant for me.

No sooner do I say I am looking out for shoes for 2027 then I get a call regarding one and this is going to be a special one, Weargste is coming home!!

I have received and accepted an offer to display the layout at Newton Aycliffe show in March 27, this will be the first time Weargste has appeared in County Durham - the county of it’s inspiration, so it’s going to be good to take it “home” as well as allow Dads friends and family to see his creation - all the work I do I try to keep the essence of his work there.

This message comes shortly after Weargate returned home from the Lydney Model railway show, and with that comes the completion of the layouts first year on the exhibition circuit.

From its 2nd debut (the one it made with me, its proper debut was 2024 the only time my dad displayed it) to this weekend the layout has been to 3 different shows plus 2 open days at a local Minature railway, the layout has been seen by and hopefully enjoyed by many people young and old. Also bringing me back to meeting people me and my dad knew from the circuit as well as new friends who have offered advice, encouragement and support.

The layout has some jobs to be completed before the 2027 season, which is open to bookings. We have only one official so far so if you are interested in Weargste for your show please do get in touch.

Finally let me end with a special thanks to N Gauge Society - Newport, South Wales Group and Basement Trains for all the help operating this year, it’s been a pleasure to have you all by my side

But also special thanks should go to my dad David Farms as the layout was his vision and he made it a reality, I am merely the keeper of his vision and intend to keep it going as long as possible in memory of the man who is solely responsible for my interest in trains even to this day.

I know he would be proud of what he achieved this last year with a little help from me

We are set up ready for Lydney Model Railway Exhibition tomorrow morning, unfortunately during set up a piece of track has been broken. But we will be on site in the morning to replace it, didn’t bring spare track or soldering iron and tools to replace track. But we will have time to do so in the morning.

And with that this years TINGS show has come to an end. The layout is back in place awaiting its next outing in just 2 weeks time at Lydney Model Railway Exhibition so we are looking forward to that.

Thanks to Meridienne Exhibitions LTD for having us there, great hosts and a good venue, also thanks to Basement Trains for help on Saturday (but not for what attending did to your wallets!) and all the public who stopped to chat, compliment the layout and make it all worth while
