Abersoch RNLI

Abersoch RNLI The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea The 1.8 tonne vessel can reach speeds of upto 35knots.

Our lifeboat is an RNLI Atlantic 85 rigid inflatable donated to Abersoch from the bequest of the late Mrs Ann Constance Setten from Shropshire. Our Atlantic is named after her & her husband - ‘Peter & Ann Setten.’

Built in 2015 it is the 85th Atlantic 85 to be built by the RNLI at the Inshore Lifeboat Centre in Cowes. Measuring 8.44m in length it carries 4 crew members with each seat having a dif

ferent role to play being link by an integrated communications system. Being powered by two four stroke inversion proof 115hp Yamaha engines. Our Atlantic carries a full suite of communications & electronic navigation aids. Including VHF radio, VHF direction finding, GPS & electronic charts, radar, night vision, & a range of casualty care equipment onboard. Petter & Ann Setten replaces the Atlantic 75 - ‘Margaret Bench of Solihull’ & prior to that the Atlantic 21 - ‘Borough of Solihull’ continuing the RNLI providing the most upto date, technically advanced Search & Rescue Vessels to their crews. Which is only possible thanks to your generosity thank you.

Today, 15th June, our flag flies at half mast.

Alongside the International Maritime Rescue Federation and maritime search and rescue organisations around the world, we are paying tribute to Bill Ewen and Frank Petsch of Marine Rescue New South Wales, Australia, who tragically lost their lives in Ballina last month.

Their ultimate sacrifice is a solemn reminder of the courage, dedication and selflessness shown by those who put themselves at risk to save lives at sea.

As part of the international SAR community, we join in honouring Bill and Frank’s service and recognising the commitment of all maritime search and rescue personnel who answer the call to help others.

We also remember Matthew Clayton, who lost his life in this tragic accident.

Our thoughts are with the families and friends of Bill, Frank and Matthew, and with everyone at Marine Rescue NSW and the Ballina community.

📟 Callout : 4/6/26

Abersoch RNLI were tasked by HM Coastguard on Thursday evening to assist a wing foiler who had got into difficulty approximately one mile offshore from Llanbedrog.

The volunteer crew had assembled at the station for their weekly training exercise when the call came in at 6.11pm. The Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat launched within 10minutes in a fresh westerly breeze and slight sea state.

The casualty was located within four minutes. A change in wind direction, combined with a drop in wind speed, had left them unable to sail back to shore.

The casualty was safely brought back to the lifeboat station where they were assessed and warmed up before being collected by a relative.

A good reminder that conditions can change quickly on the water, even on a summer evening.

‼️ If you do get into difficulty, or spot someone else in trouble, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.

We were delighted to welcome the children of Ysgol Llanbedrog to the station for a fantastic visit this week. 💙

These brilliant youngsters certainly knew their RNLI facts and kept our crew busy with some excellent questions! They learnt about staying safe by the sea, the role of the RNLI, our lifeboat, the equipment we use and what it’s like to be part of a volunteer crew.

Their enthusiasm, curiosity and confidence were amazing to see and who knows, we may even have met a few future crew members in the making. 🚤

A huge thank you to everyone from Ysgol Llanbedrog for coming to visit us. We loved having you on station.

Roeddem wrth ein bodd cael croesawu plant Ysgol Llanbedrog i’r orsaf am ymweliad gwych yr wythnos hon. 💙

Roedd y bobl ifanc arbennig yma wedi bod yn dysgu ffeithiau am yr RNLI ac fe wnaethant gadw ein criw yn brysur gyda cyfres o gwestiynau gwych! Buont yn dysgu am gadw’n ddiogel wrth y môr, rôl yr RNLI, ein bad achub, yr offer rydym yn ei ddefnyddio, a sut beth yw bod yn rhan o griw gwirfoddol.

Roedd eu brwdfrydedd, eu chwilfrydedd a’u hyder yn anhygoel i’w weld, a phwy a ŵyr, efallai ein bod hyd yn oed wedi cwrdd â rhai aelodau criw’r dyfodol. 🚤

Diolch o galon i bawb o Ysgol Llanbedrog am ddod i ymweld â ni. Roedd yn bleser mawr eich cael yn yr orsaf.

Well this is something a little different… 👀

Two RNLI B Class Atlantic 85 lifeboats on station here in Abersoch.

A big welcome to our relief lifeboat, Paul and Stella Rowsell, which will be based here while our own Atlantic 85, Peter and Ann Setten, heads away for a refit and updates over the next few months.

Our volunteer crew have been busy swapping and checking equipment, changing trailers and taking both lifeboats afloat on exercise to water test everything, making sure we’re fully operational and ready when that pager goes.

Wel, dyma beth anarferol… 👀

Dwy fad achub Dosbarth B Atlantic 85 RNLI ar ddyletswydd yma yn Abersoch.

Croeso mawr i’r gwch achub, Paul & Stella Rowsell, a fydd wedi’i lleoli yma tra bydd ein Atlantic 85 ein hunain, Peter & Ann Setten, i ffwrdd yn cael ei diweddaru a’i hadnewyddu dros y misoedd nesaf.

Mae ein criw gwirfoddol wedi bod yn brysur yn cyfnewid a gwirio offer, newid trelars, a cael y ddwy gwch allan ar y mor ar ymarfer i brofi a sicrhau ein bod yn gwbl weithredol ac yn barod pan fydd y gloch yn canu.

Choosing the right lifejacket or buoyancy aid could save your life 🛟

From paddleboarding and kayaking to sailing and offshore boating, different activities need different types of flotation devices and the best one is the one you’ll actually wear.

✔️ Make sure it fits properly
✔️ Check it’s suitable for your activity
✔️ Maintain it regularly
✔️ Always secure crotch straps and fasten correctly

Cold water can affect even the strongest swimmers far quicker than many people realise.

If in doubt, speak to your local watersports specialists for advice and always wear the right kit for the conditions.
