The Scottish Ornithologists' Club

The Scottish Ornithologists' Club Scotland's Bird Club. Watching Over Our Birds. On the one hand, a birdwatching club. The SOC is Scotland's Bird Club.

We bring together like-minded individuals with a passion for birds and nature, through a programme of talks, outings and via the Club's quarterly journal, 'Scottish Birds'. On the other, a network of volunteers across Scotland, gathering vital, impartial information about our wild birds. Recording & monitoring is our bread and butter. For more than 75 years we've been watching over Scotland's bird

s, recording what birds we've seen, how many and where (as well as what we didn't see). This information is then made available to conservationists, planners and developers and is used by organisations such as RSPB, as one of the first points of reference for informed planning.

What a fantastic opportunity for young nature enthusiasts in Scotland!

Free marine residential opportunity for young people in Scotland

With thanks to funding from The National Lottery Community Fund Young Start programme, the Marine Conservation Society is offering 10 free places each on two marine conservation residentials this summer to young people (13-17 years) living in the central belt of Scotland.

📍Location: Millport Field Studies Centre, Isle of Cumbrae,

🐋Dates: 20-22 July and 10-12 August 2026

These residentials are for young people interested in learning more about our marine environment, meeting like-minded people, and having fun outdoors! We are particularly interested in hearing from young people who would normally face barriers to attend such an event. The experience will include island walks, ID workshops, team building, ocean learning and beach time.

To apply for one of the places, fill in this form below by Friday 12th June 2026.

This we're celebrating the contributions of our extraordinary volunteers.

From helping with the library, archives, gallery, garden and events at Waterston House, to running our local branches, editing Scottish Birds, recording birds and producing local bird reports, volunteers underpin everything we do.

So a big ‘thank you’ to all our volunteers across the country!

Don’t miss you chance to pop along and see the show at our headquarters in Aberlady before it closes. We are open Tues-Sun 10.00-4.30pm.
