Spring air does wonders for your wellbeing, and your time outdoors can make a real difference for our seas too.

April is and we’ve got simple, meaningful ways to get involved. By collecting evidence on pollution and wildlife, you’ll provide vital data that helps influence policies and drive real change.

Here’s six projects you can do at any time:

- Wildlife sightings (5 min): tell us if you spot a jellyfish or marine turtle around the UK or Irish coast
- Source to Sea Litter quest (10min – 1 hour): Record litter you find in your local area – no need to be by the sea
- Big Microplastic survey (30min): Search for microplastics on your local beach
- Beach clean (1 hour): Clean and record litter you find at the beach
- Big Seaweed Search (1 hour): Log the seaweed species you find

🌊 It’s Citizen Science Month and YOU can help protect sharks & rays 🦈💙

Ever spotted one of these on the beach?
They’re called eggcases (aka “mermaid’s purses”) and each one tells a story 👀

By recording your finds, you’re helping scientists track shark & ray populations and protect our oceans 🌍

I’ve been taking part in the Great Eggcase Hunt with BSAC - British Sub-Aqua Club & The Shark Trust and you can too 🙌

📍Next time you’re at the beach:
✔️ Look out for eggcases
✔️ Snap a photo
✔️ Log your find

Small actions = BIG impact 🌊

🦈 FUN FACT FRIDAY 🦈

The basking shark (Cetorhinus maximus) is the second largest fish in the world… and it’s found right here in UK waters 👀🇬🇧

Despite their HUGE size (up to 10 metres 😳), they’re completely harmless, feeding only on tiny plankton by swimming with their mouths wide open.

At peak feeding times, a single basking shark can filter thousands of litres of water per hour 🤯

But sadly, they’re a vulnerable species, threatened by boat strikes, fishing gear, and ocean pollution.

💙 Protecting our oceans = protecting incredible species like this.

Join us for a Rhyl Beach Clean on Sunday 12th April, 11am–1pm 🌊

We’ll be meeting outside the RNLI Shop on Rhyl Promenade for our first collaboration with The Golden Lion SAC (GLSAC), and the start of regular clean-ups together 💙

All equipment will be provided (litter pickers, hoops, bags, and gloves if needed), so just bring yourself… and maybe a friend 👀

We’ll be running the event whatever the weather, so come prepared:
☀️ Suncream if it’s bright
🌧️ A coat if it’s not

Whether you can stay for 10 minutes or the full 2 hours, every bit helps. Let’s protect our coastline together 🌍

On Saturday, I had the pleasure of joining The Golden Lion SAC & bsacdivers at Llyn Padarn for an Invasive Species Dive.

While the team headed into the water, I stayed on shore cover, photographing the day and helping to fill the buckets with the Invasive Curly Water weeds.

We started the day with a really insightful talk from Ecologist Professor Robbie, learning about the invasive non-native and native species we were on the lookout for, and why they matter.

It was a brilliant day all around, and a huge well done to all the SAC clubs involved for their conservation efforts 👏🏻💙
