LITTER PICK ALERT 🚨

Tidal Shift and Tyfu Prestatyn are partnering up to host a litter pick as part of the Great British Beach Clean, a citizen science project, ran by the Marine Conservation Society.

It’s been a busy few months, and while Tidal Shift has been quieter online, so much has been happening behind the scenes!

So far this summer I’ve had the opportunity to:
🐋 Complete an internship with the Sea Watch Foundation
🌱 Take part in a environmental science summer school
🤿 Continue developing my diving skills and explore marine environments first-hand
🌍 Take part in a Conservation & Climate Change traineeship with North Wales Wildlife Trust
🌾 Get involved with Project Seagrass and their seagrass seed harvesting work
⛵ Experience sailing and learn more about our connection with the marine environment

Each experience has taught me something new, from marine research and habitat restoration to the importance of teamwork, community engagement and protecting the ecosystems right on our doorstep.

All of these opportunities are helping me grow my knowledge and bring new ideas, skills and inspiration back into Tidal Shift!

Thank you to everyone who has supported my journey so far. I can’t wait to share what’s next 💙

I’m off in Anglesey this week as a Research Intern for the Sea Watch Foundation covering land surveys and collecting vital data to help protect marine mammals.

We spotted some grey seals, along with a pod of bottlenose dolphins today on Porth Cwyfan.

If you ever spot a dolphin, porpoise, seal, or whale, don’t forget to record it on the Seawatcher app!

Another successful beach clean!

40kgs off the beach in just an hour.

Thank you to everyone who took some time out of their Sunday afternoon to help out, we couldn’t do it without you!

Always good to have the club from The Golden Lion SAC there to support us 🤿

Like I always say, we can only make a difference if we all work together. 😊

What an incredible experience and one I will never forget.

I am so grateful and honoured to have been chosen by BSAC as their Young Marine Champion Baton Bearer for the King's Baton Relay Glasgow 2026 at Porthdinllaen.

Being given the opportunity to represent BSAC, the diving community and everyone who shares a passion for protecting our oceans means so much to me.

It was amazing to see so many people come together at Porthdinllaen, including
North Wales Wildlife Trust with their Ocean Rescue Champion snorkellers, Project SIARC with their skate and shark eggcase hunt, Tîm Cymru / Team Wales with their lovely crew, and everyone else who helped make the day so special.

The Commonwealth Games and the King’s Baton Relay are all about inclusion and teamwork, which I think perfectly represents the diving and marine conservation community. When we all work together towards the same goal, we really can make a difference.

Thank you BSAC - British Sub-Aqua Club for this incredible opportunity. It is something I will always remember 💙🌊

A beautiful sunset. A beautiful coastline. And a reminder of the impact we leave behind. 🌅🌊

The ocean can be breathtakingly beautiful, but even the most incredible places on Earth are affected by our choices.

A single piece of litter may seem small, but every item left behind has the potential to impact the wildlife and ecosystems that call our coastlines home.

Beauty and destruction can exist in the same place. Protecting our oceans doesn’t always start underwater, it starts right here, on the shore.

Every piece of litter removed is one less threat to the incredible life beneath the waves. 🌊

Our daily choices DO make a difference, but the threat only goes away for good when we all work together.

I'm very grateful and proud to announce that I will be one of the baton holders on behalf of BSAC at the 2026 King's Baton Relay in Porth Dinllaen on Monday 22nd June!

I have been incredibly lucky to be chosen and recognised by BSAC - British Sub-Aqua Club through my Marine Conservation work and helping out in their Invasive Non-Native Species Dives.

I could never have imagined to be doing something like this when I first started my conservation journey, but I would have never been able to do it without the non-stop support from my parents, family and the amazing club at The Golden Lion SAC . Thank you 💙

It’s FUN FACT FRIDAY! 🌊

This Friday, I thought I'd talk about some of the magical little creatures that live in our oceans (and even the Thames!).

Seahorses are one of my favourite species to watch and research.

Did you know there are two seahorse species that live in UK waters?

🐴 Short-snouted seahorse (Hippocampus hippocampus)
🐴 Long-snouted seahorse (Hippocampus guttulatus)

Seahorses can change colour to act as camouflage and help avoid predators. (They aren’t the fastest swimmers!)

Male seahorses give birth to young (known as ‘fry’). The female transfers eggs to the male’s pouch, where he cares for them until they hatch.

Seahorses can be found all around the UK, but are most commonly found in shallow, sheltered waters where they can use their tails to cling onto seagrass and seaweed!
