Yesterday we tackled one of our least favourite jobs – cleaning the curtains! As we wrestled with them, we couldn’t help but reminisce about how our lovely mums helped us make them in the first place (our sewing skills definitely weren’t up to scratch!). Sadly, Kathleen is no longer with us, but we’ll always remember fondly how much she supported us and how she was always ready to lend a hand.

A Versatile Village Venue

Studio 72, an exciting new multi-purpose community space, will open in the heart of Aberdour this Autumn. The building, previously the Masonic Lodge, is located at 72 High Street, just off Main Street.

Bought by local residents Fiona Millar, Paula Hyslop and Gerry Seydak, the space will be significantly refurbished, to become an attractive multi-use venue. This will include a flexible main space, a garden area and kitchen.

The team are excited about breathing new life into the property, unleashing its potential.

“We are passionate about creating a versatile and welcoming venue for the village to use. We wanted to preserve the hall as a benefit to the community, rather than lose it to private residential development. That is what drove us to buy the hall.” says Paula, who has childhood memories from the early 1980’s when she attended the Village Playgroup there. "Once the current health crisis restrictions allow, we will be getting straight to work. We are ready and eager for a transformation!”

Fiona and Paula will head up the refurbishment and then the day-to-day running of the venture.

The Studio 72Team will modernise the main space - the kitchen and WC facilities will also benefit from a makeover. A refresh of the exterior will vastly improve the appearance of the building.

The interior remodelling will ensure Studio 72 is fresh and contemporary, ideal for hosting classes, celebrations and pop-up events. The Team also hope it will be popular for supper clubs, social gatherings, meetings and workshops. Fiona, who also grew up in Aberdour, has run her Pilates classes in the lodge for the past 14 years. Her dream has always been to run these popular sessions in her own space, designed with her clients in mind. “I’m delighted to be part of Studio 72 and all it will have to offer, not only to my Pilates clients but as a space for the residents of Aberdour and surrounding areas, to use too.”

Our close neighbours, have already kindly offered their help with the adjacent garden. This hidden gem will be ideal for informal outdoor gatherings, children’s activities and barbecues. It will add to the flexibility of the venue, especially in the summer months.

The team plan to host a special launch event once the work is complete and government Coronavirus guidelines allow. “We hope that when our community see the improvements they will be inspired by the transformation. We anticipate that Studio 72 will be hired for a variety of uses and are looking forward to increasing the scope of the facility and hearing ideas for new events. We are determined that Studio 72 will become a popular and valued community space for decades to come and we can't wait to welcome people through our doors”
