Our 6 week block is coming to an end, but we've been having way too much fun to stop for the tattie holidays just yet, so next week, due to high demand, we're going to go on a bug hunt, build an insect hotel, use the microscopes. Get in touch if you'd like to book your young person in.

Over the past couple of weeks we have made and tested our mud bricks. Experimenting with different materials added into our mixtures, comparing the strength when masses were added and the absorbency of water. It's been lots of muddy fun!

Our second flexischool session was all about friction! Measuring the force on different surfaces and investigating how we could increase or decrease friction. Fun experiments with plenty of maths skills utilised, and interspersed with some bug hunting!

Outdoor STEM group began their block of sessions on 'water' beginning with an environmental disaster oil spill! We observed the separation of oil and water, discussed how to clear it up, tried different methods, took measurements and saw the effects on bird feathers. The joy of Outdoor STEM, collaborating, getting messy, taking measurements and having fun!

Hi, I'm Debs. I am the founder/director/lead educator at STEM at The Garvock Goodlife CIC.

I've made this video to finally introduce myself and let you know about the opportunities available. We have a Flexi/home educating group up and running, but have also run activities with schools and charities in the local area as well as one-to-one sessions for those who might have a particular interest they want to explore more or might struggle with a group. I have worked in mainstream schools and within SEN settings. I can also offer science/Physics tutoring with the added bonus of practical experiments.

This week's Nature Navigators allowed us to investigate forces, we carried out lots of experiments whilst enjoying the nature all around us.

This week's session was a reminder of why I run Outdoor STEM, the freedom to veer completely off track and examine some invertebrates that caught our eyes. The joy on faces when tricky things are achieved, the barriers of the classroom are removed, our curiosity is ignited and learning comes naturally!
