Tuesday was a very special day for The Russell Anderson Foundation, as we gathered at The Chester Hotel to officially receive the King’s Award for Voluntary Service.

It was a privilege to celebrate with our volunteers, staff, trustees and supporters, and to receive the award from the Lord-Lieutenant of Aberdeen, Dr David Cameron, accompanied by his wife and Deputy, William Young.

This award is a wonderful recognition of the commitment, passion and dedication of everyone who gives their time and contribution.

Thank you to our volunteers, staff, supporters and sponsors for believing in what we do and helping us create opportunities for children and young people across Aberdeen.

We are incredibly proud and hugely grateful to everyone who has been on this journey with us.

Sometimes, all it takes is someone believing in you to change the direction of your future.

We are incredibly grateful to WM Donald for their support of our Career Pathways Programme, helping young people from our partner schools in some of Aberdeen’s most socially disadvantaged communities, to see opportunities they may never have considered.

By opening their doors, sharing their experiences and showcasing the careers available, they are helping to plant a seed of possibility.

For many of these young people, it’s the first time they’ve been able to see what a career in construction, engineering or infrastructure could look like and, more importantly, that it’s something they can aspire to.

Our programme is about raising aspirations, breaking down barriers and creating genuine opportunities. It’s about helping young people recognise their potential and giving them the confidence to pursue it.

A huge thank you to Rachel O’Donnell and Ally Smith Together, we are helping to inspire the next generation and create brighter futures.

As we enjoy the summer holidays, we are taking a moment to thank three fabulous students from Robert Gordon University – Aaron, Aimee and Joe – for all their support over the last academic year.

From coaching and holiday camps to communications and events, they brought enthusiasm, ideas and a willingness to learn.

Student placements are a win-win, providing valuable experience while bringing new energy and perspectives to organisations.

We’re delighted that Joe will be staying as a part-time coach while he continues his studies this year. We wish them all every success for the future!

Like so many across the North East and beyond, we are deeply saddened by the passing of Sir Ian Wood.

The overwhelming tributes from individuals, charities, businesses and communities over the past 24 hours speaks volumes about the extraordinary impact he had on our region.

Sir Ian’s legacy reaches far beyond philanthropy. He believed in people, recognised potential and was passionate about creating opportunities that would change lives for generations to come.

The Russell Anderson Foundation was founded by Russell following a conversation with Sir Ian Wood, whose support helped turn an idea into a charity that has transformed thousands of young lives.

Reflecting on the Foundation’s origins, Russell said:

“The Russell Anderson Foundation started with a conversation between Sir Ian and me. One conversation and an after-school football session. We shared a belief that every child deserves an opportunity, and Sir Ian encouraged me to make that vision a reality.”

From that conversation grew a charity supporting children and young people from socially disadvantaged communities across Aberdeen through sport, health and wellbeing.

Sir Ian’s generosity, foresight and unwavering commitment to investing in young people will continue to live on through every child who takes part in our programmes, builds confidence, forms lasting friendships and discovers their potential.

Our thoughts are with Lady Helen, his family, friends and everyone whose lives he touched. Thank you, Sir Ian, for believing in what was possible and for helping to make it happen.

Well, that was special! ⚽️🏸🎾

Last week marked the end of another fantastic two weeks of our free holiday camps and we’re proud of the difference they made.

An average of 90 children attended each day, our highest numbers yet! Staying active, making friends and building confidence.

We also introduced arts and crafts sessions on selected days, which were a big hit. 🎨

A huge thank you to our coaches, volunteers and everyone who helped make the camps such a success. We’re also grateful to ACE Forwarding and Sport Scotland’s Summer of Sport for their support.

For many children, these camps are about much more than sport, they are a safe place to belong, try new things and make memories.

What a special day at the Mitch Megginson Testimonial Events match on Sunday!

We were incredibly proud to see one of our pupils, Logan Stewart from Kirkhill Primary School, walk out as the mascot for the Aberdeen Legends alongside Russell himself. ❤️

It’s a reminder of why the The Russell Anderson Foundation exists. Creating opportunities, inspiring young people, and giving children experiences they’ll never forget.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in making the day such a success. It was fantastic to see football bringing the community together while raising awareness and support for our work.

Moments like these inspire the next generation, both on and off the pitch. Well done, Logan! 🌟
