Behind every statistic is a human story.

Read powerful stories of courage, resilience, and hope from people who have been forced to leave their homes, featured in this Scottish Refugee Council publication.

"Misleading media narratives have a powerful impact, especially on those who rely on headlines rather than lived experience. Sharing the truth is one of the most important ways to challenge prejudice and build understanding," says Wahib, who also volunteers in one of GREC's projects.

Meet our Refugee Festival Ambassadors: six inspiring people from Sudan, Ukraine, Gaza, Nigeria and beyond who are rebuilding their lives in Scotland.

The Staging Post

โฐ 3:00 pm to 4:05 pm.

The Staging Post is a real-life, real-time documentary following Muzafar Ali and 17-year-old refugee Khadim Dai in Indonesia. What began with filming daily life on a mobile phone grew into a refugee-led education movement. As a result, the first refugee-managed school in Indonesia, the Cisarua Refugee Learning Centre was created.

The film is a powerful story of courage, connection, resilience and the power of community.

This screening is a part of Refugee Festival Scotland, and a partnership between The Belmont Cinema, Nowruz Aberdeen and Aberdeen Archives, Gallery & Museums.

When Muzafar Ali encouraged his friend, 17 year-old refugee Khadim Dai, to start filming his life on his mobile phone, they sparked a refugee-led education revolution. The Staging Post is a real-life, real-time story of courage, connection, and the power of the community. Courageous People Never Giv...

Thank you to National Literacy Trust for donating some amazing books for us to gift to our volunteers during Volunteersโ€™ Week.

Your generous support helped us recognise and celebrate our fantastic volunteers, and take part in the Go All In 2026 campaign for the National Year of Reading 2026.
