⟡Miles for Polio Challenge⟡
This October, we’re inviting Rotaractors, Rotarian and everyone across the world to take part on our October triathlon challenge as a fundraiser for End Polio Now. Whether you run, walk, cycle, swim, or hike - every mile you move counts towards our shared goal.

Every year, Rotaract and Rotary clubs all around the world come together to fundraise for our End Polio campaign, to fund for polio vaccines. This has veen a global commitment since 1985 when Rotary International launched PolioPlus, the first and largest internationally coordinated private-sector support of a public health initiative. In 1988, Rotary International and EHO launched the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, there were an estimation of 350,000 cases of polio in 125 countries. Since then, we have seen a worldwide reduction in polio cases of 99.9%, with only 2 countries remain polio-endemic: Afganistan and Pakistan. The most recent data showd there are a total of 39 cases between the two countries. We need your help to achieve the global eradication of polio!

Join us and log your miles from your runs, walks and cycles! We are hoping to achieve a total of 1985 miles by the end of October. You can also support us by donating directly to the PolioPlus campaign through the link below!

⟡Meet the Committee : Paula⟡
Hi! I'm Paula, a.k.a Pepper 😁 I work with children and young people with additional support needs. I enjoy a wide variety of hobbies, including reading, nature walks, baking and gaming.

I joined Rotaract shortly after moving to Aberdeenshire in 2023. I originally joined because I am from Australia and know nobody from Scotland, so it was a way to meet folk from Aberdeen and beyond. I was a general member for a while but I have decided to step up to the role of President as I really enjoy the community and helping to raise money and awareness for different charities.

I'm Tim, the vice-president for this year, returning after being the activities officer for the previous year. I work as a Software Engineer and enjoy building things, walks and spending time with my dogs. Rotaract has been great for getting to know people and being involved in the Aberdeen community.

⟡Meet the Committee : Gabrielle⟡
Hi I’m Gabrielle, this year's social secretary. Throughout my time in the club, Rotaract has provided me a lot of exposure and experience in team working and project planning. It is also a great place to build connection and network with people of different background. I'm looking forward to create more content and bring more exposure to the club this year. Stay tuned for our club's events!

⟡Meet the Committee : Alara⟡
I’m glad to be part of the Rotaract Club of Aberdeen, having joined the team in May 2026. My interest in community service started through Rotaract at Stetson University and my ongoing connection with Rotary Bon Accord, which taught me the value of giving back. I’m always happy lend a hand with volunteering and fundraising initiatives. My favorite volunteer event this year was assisting as a colour thrower at the Colour Run! Outside of Rotaract and work, I can be found drinking coffee and spending time working on my golf game.

🚲Cycling Fundraiser for Oxygen Concentrator🚲
Our club is running our 2nd cycling fundraiser this year! We are fundraising in aid of Rotary Club of St Fittick International Committee's project in Sierra Leone to sponsor a paediatric oxygen concentrator for the Children's Cottage Hospital in Freetown.

🚲Project Background:
At the start of March 2026, an abandoned, severely malnourised baby was found by a member of Sisterland (twin charity in Sierra Leone). The baby had to be brought to the hospital for further assessment and treatment. However, when baby was struggling to breathe they were told that there were no oxygen system set up in the hospital. It was also hightlighted that three babies had died that same morning due to the lack of oxygen support. The baby is currently stabilised and receiving treatment under the care of Mariamma who is a member of Sisterland Charity in Sierra Leone and Rotary Club of Aberdeen St Fittck.

The International Committee is currently in touch with a Paediatric Consultant in the Children's Hospital for ongoing planning of this project. We are joining together to raise money to purchase an oxygen concentrator for the paediatric ward at Children’s Cottage Hospital Freetown costing in the region of £1,200 to £2,000.

🚲Details of the bike ride:
• Start Banchory 10 am and finish Banchory.
• Approx 25 miles. Mostly traffic free quiet lanes and off road.
• Stopover Torphins with free food and drinks
• No cost. Donate or raise whatever you can.

We greatly appreciate any donation support through the link below:

It's a wrap! Westhill Colour Run 🎊🥳 Thank you to everyone who participated, I hope you all had a great time.

We will be finalising the funds in the coming days so keep an eye out to see how much you've donated to our two beneficiary charities - Cardiac Risk in the Young and Westhill & District Community Sport and Leisure Hub.

The event was very successful and we will learn from this year's experience to deliver a better event next year! Please comment or contact us for any feedback you'd like to give 😊

A BIG thank you to Hilary and Elly from Jazzercise Aberdeen West for running our warm up session! The music, the energy, everything was on point! 🔥

Last but not least, a BIG BIG THANK YOU to our Rotaract Aberdeen members, Rotarians from St Fittick Rotary Club , Aberdeen Deeside Rotary , Interactors from Oldmeldrum Interact Club, and friends and families who helped out today!
