Step Change in Safety is the UK's oil and gas safety organisation.

We are member-led organisation and believe that by collaborating, sharing and adopting best practices we will improve the safety of the UKCS. Step Change in Safety is the not-for-profit membership organisation which works to raise oil and gas industry standards and share good safety practice across the UKCS. It was founded in 1997 by the oil and gas industry trade associations with the aim of redu

cing the UK offshore injury rate. In 2015, Step Change in Safety separated from Oil & Gas UK, making it an independent tripartite organisation which represents the workforce, regulators and employers. Through the organisation’s work-groups and support team, Step Change in Safety works relentlessly to raise safety standards, share good practice and communicate facts so that no-one becomes complacent about staying safe in the UK oil and gas industry.

Today, we pause to remember those who tragically lost their lives and those impacted by the Super Puma helicopter accident near Sumburgh on 23 August 2013.

Our thoughts are with all those affected – the families, friends, colleagues, and the wider offshore community.

Events like this stay with us. As we honour those who were lost, we remain committed to our mission: preventing incidents and injuries across the energy industry, and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our workforce always comes first.
