Ever wondered what a day in the life of a NERVS Blood Bikes Controller looks like? π€βοΈποΈ
While our riders/drivers are out on the road, behind the scenes there's a dedicated volunteer Controller making sure everything runs smoothly.
A typical shift can involve:
π Taking requests from hospitals and NHS departments
πΊοΈ Planning and coordinating journeys across the region
ποΈ Allocating jobs to available riders
π± Keeping in touch with volunteers throughout their shifts
π Prioritising urgent and time-critical deliveries
𧩠Solving unexpected challenges and adapting plans as situations change
β Consuming a healthy amount of tea, coffee and biscuits (an essential skill!)
Our Controllers are the calm voice behind the scenes, helping ensure samples, donor milk, medication and other vital items reach where they're needed, when they're needed.
They may not wear out tyres, but they certainly wear out phone batteries! ππ
Without Controllers, there would be no service to coordinate β they are a vital part of the NERVS Blood Bikes team.
Next time you see one of our riders/drivers, remember there's also a Controller working quietly in the background making it all happen. πβ€οΈ
