We provide logistical support to our local NHS and health-related charities. Our team of volunteers use a fleet of motorcycles and cars to deliver a free transport service. From biological specimens to medical records, medication and breast milk, we are on hand to support our local NHS.

Ever wondered what a day in the life of a NERVS Blood Bikes Controller looks like? 🤔☎️🏍️

While our riders/drivers are out on the road, behind the scenes there's a dedicated volunteer Controller making sure everything runs smoothly.

A typical shift can involve:

📞 Taking requests from hospitals and NHS departments
🗺️ Planning and coordinating journeys across the region
🏍️ Allocating jobs to available riders
📱 Keeping in touch with volunteers throughout their shifts
🚑 Prioritising urgent and time-critical deliveries
🧩 Solving unexpected challenges and adapting plans as situations change
☕ Consuming a healthy amount of tea, coffee and biscuits (an essential skill!)

Our Controllers are the calm voice behind the scenes, helping ensure samples, donor milk, medication and other vital items reach where they're needed, when they're needed.

They may not wear out tyres, but they certainly wear out phone batteries! 🔋😂

Without Controllers, there would be no service to coordinate – they are a vital part of the NERVS Blood Bikes team.

Next time you see one of our riders/drivers, remember there's also a Controller working quietly in the background making it all happen. 💙❤️

📸 Another busy day for the NERVS Blood Bikes team!

Pictured is David handing over donor milk to Les at GCHC today, while Dawn was on official photographer duties after helping with the collections earlier in the day. 🚚🍼📸

Meanwhile, Nataliya was clocking up the miles around Moray, keeping the wheels turning and making essential NHS deliveries. 🏍️💨

Behind the scenes, controller Mike was keeping everyone organised, making sure the right people were in the right places at the right times – no pressure, Mike! 🎧📞😄

It's amazing what our volunteers achieve – whether it's collecting, delivering, navigating, coordinating, or remembering to take a photo for Facebook!

🚑 Another Busy Day for NERVS! 🚑

It's been another day of criss-crossing the North East for our volunteers, with deliveries heading in all directions.

One of today's highlights was at Asda Huntly, where the two Allans met to hand over deliveries for DGH. We can confirm that despite rumours, they are in fact two separate people and not one Allan moving extremely quickly around Aberdeenshire! 😆

While Allan was handing over to Allan (try saying that three times fast!), Grant was out delivering equipment to Maud Resource Centre on behalf of Bairnecessities.

As if that wasn't enough, Greg, Andy and Mike were also out this evening, covering Laurencekirk, Stonehaven, Huntly, Portsoy and Peterhead with Dan looking after them

From hospitals to local charities, our volunteers have been keeping the wheels turning all day. Between the bikes, cars and relays, we've probably travelled enough miles to make our sat navs ask for a day off. Looked after by today’s controller Ash

A massive thank you to all our volunteers for giving up their time to help others. Whether you're riding, driving, controlling or fundraising, you're all legends. 💙

And remember, if you ever see two Allans together again, make a wish – it's apparently a very rare event! 😄

Could You Spare a Little Time to Help NERVS? 🏍️🚗

North East Rider Volunteers Scotland (NERVS) is looking for new volunteers to join our team and help support the NHS and other healthcare services across the North East of Scotland.

We have a variety of roles available, including:
🏍️ Riders – using our Blood Bikes to transport vital items.
🚗 Drivers – carrying out deliveries using NERVS vehicles.
☎️ Controllers – coordinating deliveries and supporting our operational teams.
🎟️ Fundraisers – helping raise awareness and funds to keep our service running.

Whether you can spare a few hours a month or more, every volunteer makes a difference. No matter your skills or experience, there could be a role for you within NERVS.

By volunteering with us, you'll be joining a fantastic team dedicated to providing a free, professional transport service for hospitals, healthcare providers and local charities.

Another Busy Day for NERVS! 🏍️💨

As always, NERVS volunteers were out on the road today, carrying out deliveries across the North East of Scotland.

Today's duties included a relay alongside our friends at HIABB, helping to ensure donor milk reached GCHC safely and efficiently. It's always great to work together with fellow Blood Bike groups to get important items where they need to be.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers involved for giving up their time to keep the wheels turning. Whether it's a delivery across the region or a relay with our neighbouring groups, our volunteers are always ready to answer the call.

The miles keep adding up, but so does the difference our volunteers make every day. 👏🏍️

💙🏍️ A Huge Thank You to the Smith Family and Kangaroo Self Storage 🏍️💙

A massive thank you to the Smith family and the staff of Kangaroo Self Storage for taking part in the Aberdeen Kiltwalk yesterday and choosing to support NERVS Blood Bikes. They have raised the fantastic sum of almost £2500 for NERVS

The miles may have been walked on foot, but every step helped support our volunteers who keep the wheels turning across the North East and beyond.

We were delighted to be able to bring one of our Blood Bikes (Chelle) along to the finish line to welcome the team home and celebrate their fantastic achievement. It was great to see so much support for NERVS and to have the opportunity to chat with fellow walkers and supporters.

From everyone at NERVS, thank you for your time, effort, sore feet, and fundraising.

We hope you've all recovered from the walk... and that the sight of the Blood Bike at the finish gave you that little extra boost to get over the line! 😊

As Volunteers Week draws to an end, we'd like to take a moment to say a huge THANK YOU to every single volunteer who helps make NERVS Blood Bikes possible.

From our riders and drivers covering hundreds of miles, to our controllers coordinating calls, fundraisers raising vital funds, and everyone working behind the scenes – you are the heart of NERVS.

Whatever the weather, whatever the hour, our volunteers give their time freely to support healthcare services across the North East of Scotland. Your dedication, commitment, and teamwork ensure that essential medical items reach where they're needed, completely free of charge.

This week shines a spotlight on volunteers, but our appreciation lasts all year round.
