The Archie Foundation Transforming experiences and outcomes for babies, children and their families.

Making the Difference’ for close to 100,000 patients every year, the ARCHIE Foundation provides all of the extras that allow an enhanced level of care for local children. We provide key staff posts such as the ARCHIE Specialist Nurse, the ARCHIE Play Leader and the ARCHIE Family Support Worker. We buy life changing medical equipment and fund specialist training to ensure the local healthcare teams can always provide the most up-to-date and high quality care. We buy toys, books and computer games, run art workshops and provide musical concerts in the hospital – often at the bedside of children who are too sick to come to our communal play areas.

We are inviting all families, past and present, to join us for a special afternoon hosted by the Archie Neonatal Committee in recognition of World Prematurity Day. Whether your journey was recent or many years ago, we would love to see you!

With exciting guests joining us, this is a lovely opportunity to reconnect with families you met during your time in the unit, share experiences and help shape the support available to future families receiving neonatal care.

A huge thank you to Noah and the Boys’ Brigade in Buckie!

We are delighted to share that Noah, together with his Boys' Brigade group in Buckie, has raised an incredible £250 for The Archie Foundation!

Noah is currently undergoing cancer treatment at the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, where Archie supports children and families through some of life’s most challenging times.

Despite everything Noah is going through himself, it’s wonderful to see him and his Boys’ Brigade group thinking of others and raising funds to help support families just like his 💙

Why I took part in Prematuri-tea: Clar's story 💜

From those first weeks in neonatal care to seeing Isabella grow today, every family's journey is unique. For one of our wonderful supporters, Clar, organising a Prematuri-tea was a way to give something back to the people who supported her family along the way.

Reflecting on her experience, she shared:

“Organising the Prematuri-tea in the office last year was so heart-warming. We had so many people who were willing to donate cakes for the sale, donate their time to help on the day with setting up and chat to folks about their own experience.

The Prematuri-tea was my way of saying thanks to the Neonatal team and the Archie Foundation for all their help and support while Isabella was in neonatal for 4 weeks. Everyone was so reassuring and nothing was ever too much. We cannot thank the nurses in neonatal enough”

Stories like Isabella's remind us why supporting neonatal families matters, and how a simple cup of tea and slice of cake can make a difference 💜

💙 Supporting the people behind the play 💙

Throughout , we’re celebrating not only the importance of play in hospital, but also the incredible people who make it possible.

Play Specialists across Tayside work closely with children who may be anxious or struggling during a hospital admission. Through tailored play programmes, preparation and distraction, they can help reduce fears, support children through procedures and make their hospital experience that little bit easier.

Earlier this year, members of the team had the opportunity to attend the Society of Health Play Specialists Annual Conference, where professionals from across the sector came together to share learning, ideas and best practice.

With limited budget available to attend, Archie funded the team’s travel costs, helping make sure they could benefit from this opportunity.

Supporting professional development like this means new ideas, knowledge and approaches can be brought back to Tayside – ultimately helping the team continue providing the best possible support for local children and young people. 💛

This Play in Healthcare Week, we’re celebrating the magic that happens every day in the children’s unit at Raigmore Hospital—thanks to our incredible Play Team.

For children facing hospital stays, play is so much more than fun. It’s a lifeline. Our specialist Play Team helps children feel less anxious, more comfortable, and empowered—using play to turn daunting experiences into moments of comfort and understanding.

From creative arts and crafts to sensory and messy play, our team brings colour and joy to the wards. Whether it’s using a favourite character to explain a procedure or providing distraction during appointments, they make a real difference for every child and family.

We’re thrilled that members of our Play Team will be joining us at the Mummy Market next Saturday! This is your chance to meet the team, see their work in action, and support projects that brighten hospital days for children across the Highlands.

By booking a table, shopping for preloved children’s clothes and toys, or simply spreading the word, you’re helping us continue this vital work.
