Hi guys, we made it! It’s the end of the semester and we would like to wrap up by saying congratulations on making it through this year - it’s time for a well deserved break! 🥳

Thank you for all your support, it was wonderful getting to know you through our online society events, and we look forward to seeing you again next year. Our new committee was elected at our AGM in April and we will introduce them in September.

Congrats to everyone for getting through exams!! We hope that they went well and that you are all getting some well-deserved rest. This semester has been really great and we've enjoyed getting to know so many of you and to close it all off we will be holding our final Journal Club this Friday . Hi folks! Heads-up: it’s AGM season!!! We’re planning on holding our own on April 9th (two weeks from now) and we’d love to see you all there so we can see some democracy in action! This upcoming year, we are hoping to introduce the role of Vice President to our society, so we will be accepting applications for this alongside the pre-existing roles of President, Secretary, Treasurer and Social-Media Coordinator.

We will be circulating a google form sometime next week for attendance and committee applications - so keep your eyes peeled and if you have any questions in the meantime, feel free to send us a message!

We have really enjoyed running this society this year, and we hope to continue with our mission of knowledge and networking next year with all you wonderful people! 🧠

Neurodiversity Celebration Week highlights individuals with neurological differences, such as autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and dyslexia. This week we celebrate what neurodivergent individuals CAN do, not what they can’t - difference does not equal deficit.

The term “neurodiversity” was coined by Judy Singer, a sociologist on the autism spectrum, in the late 1990s, because she rejected the idea that people with autism were intrinsically disabled. Instead of trying to “cure” those whose brains are wired differently, we should celebrate their many strengths and abilities, and appreciate what they can contribute to our societies.

A key movement in recognising neurodiversity is the Universal Design for Learning, which recognises that there is not a “one size fits all” for education - there are a wide range of students with a wide range of abilities, so it is important to use a variety of teaching strategies to give all students equal opportunities for success. In addition, Neurodiversity Celebration Week recognises the importance of acknowledging disabilities so that individuals can access the support that they require.
