Asthma and Allergy Foundation Supporting people living with asthma and allergy At Asthma and Allergy Foundation, we understand how difficult it is to cope with asthma.

We exist solely to offer advice, help and support to people fighting for breath as a result of asthma. We believe when people are well informed about their asthma or when a parent of a child is equipped with all the necessary information, their condition tends to be managed well.

Today, the 3rd Monday in June, is National Fragrance-Free Day!!!

✅ Fragrance sits alongside cigarette smoke and air pollution as one of the most common triggers for an asthma attack. Yet it's rarely discussed in our workplaces, homes and shared spaces.

✅ We are inviting individuals and organisations to go fragrance-free for the day in solidarity with over 350,000 people living with asthma across Scotland.

What an incredible Kiltwalk for Aberdeen today! We want to say a huge well done to everyone - but especially Georgina & Mark, who undertook the Wee Wander with a team of 20 friends and family in memory of their daughter Olivia Grace.

The Pink Crew were right at the front at the start line, and came across the finish line together in record time - and together they have raised almost £5,000 for the Asthma & Allergy Foundation!

We are honoured that Olivia’s family have chosen to support our mission in this way, and so proud of them for taking on this walk in her memory 🩷

P.S. It's not too late to help top up the family fundraising - if you'd like to celebrate their success by making a contribution, please visit:

We are always proud of our community, but this is a particularly special story. We met Mark and Georgina in the most difficult circumstances, after their daughter Olivia Grace died suddenly from an acute asthma attack in October 2025.

Mark & Georgina are determined to make a difference, by helping to ensure that earlier diagnosis and support is made available for other families living with asthma.

On Sunday 7 June 2026, Mark, Georgina and their family will take part in the Aberdeen Kiltwalk “Wee Wander” — a 3-mile walk in Olivia’s memory.

The family are raising funds for the Asthma and Allergy Foundation to help improve awareness, support and resources for families living with asthma. We are incredibly thankful to Olivia’s family for choosing to support our charity and for taking on this walk in her memory ❤

I am writing this because I haven't had time to contact everyone I wanted to directly.
So as I prepare to leave the Asthma and Allergy Foundation I’ve been reflecting on what an incredible privilege it has been to spend my time educating others, raising awareness, and hopefully making a difference.

There are far too many people to thank individually, but to everyone I’ve had the pleasure of supporting — children, parents, teachers, youth groups, after-school clubs, libraries, sports facilities, and community hubs — thank you. Thank you for welcoming us into your spaces and allowing these potentially life-saving conversations to happen.

To all the staff at the venues who organised everything behind the scenes, completed our forms, and helped make events run smoothly — your support never went unnoticed.

A special thank you to Vicki, my amazing line manager. I was devastated when you were made redundant in April. Knowing we were on borrowed time due to lack of funding was incredibly difficult, and I genuinely don’t think I would have gotten through these last few months without your support. You were a line manager who let me get on with it, who listened, who inspired and who I loved a brainstorm with...bouncing ideas was fun. To Stephen — I will really miss our sessions together. Thank you for always being such a gentleman, for joining me at events, and for carrying my equipment more times than I can count and for all your efforts organising our volunteers.

To the volunteers who continued to show up and give their time so generously: thank you. I wish you all the best with your studies and whatever comes next. The charity will rely on you greatly now that so many of us are gone — and I know you’ve got this.

I am bitterly disappointed that I will no longer be delivering these workshops, disappointed that the charity sector is struggling so much financially, and disappointed in myself for not speaking up enough about serious concerns.

Despite everything, I leave with fond memories and immense pride in what we achieved together.

Many of you will be aware of Dyce Caravans shutting so that means both my husband and I are looking for new opportunities. Where one door closes another opens so here's hoping for double doors opening. I suspect I will take early retirement and get a wee part time job so if anyone knows of any suitable outreach positions please pm me. (Pamela Cu***ng)

And finally, one last reminder from me:

Please remember your inhaler.
It can’t help you if you don’t have it with you.
Thanks again and best wishes

Final visit to Laurencekirk School 💙

Today marked my final visit to Laurencekirk School, where I delivered our allergy and asthma workshop at assembly—and what a fantastic experience it has been!

The young people were exceptionally well behaved throughout both visits, truly living out their school values. They showed resilience, responsibility and the utmost respect—for me, for their peers, and in the caring relationships they have with one another. It’s clear the school embraces inclusivity, recognising that everyone is different and deserves to be treated with kindness and respect.

Our workshops fitted perfectly with Shanarri Calimari as in picture below. Together we explored asthma and allergies—learning how to recognise triggers and symptoms, and most importantly, how to help keep each other safe and healthy. The engagement from both pupils and staff was brilliant, with thoughtful questions and great participation across the sessions.

As I was leaving last time, it was lovely to see the children out in the playground, full of energy and enjoying being active. Many came over to say thank you—such wonderful manners and genuine appreciation.

Speaking of thanks, I’d like to extend my appreciation to the whole school team: ✨

✨ The janitorial team for setting up so efficiently for each visit

✨ The dinner staff for their patience and friendliness

✨ And of course, the pupils themselves—your listening, enthusiasm and questions were amazing

Extra points must go to the pupils’ entry and exit from the hall—truly some of the best I’ve ever seen 👏

Thank you, Laurencekirk School—it’s been an absolute pleasure working with you all!

✨ A full-circle moment ✨
I had the absolute privilege of returning to the primary school I attended back in the 1970s—this time not as a pupil, but to deliver allergy awareness training.
We had some brilliant conversations with the children about what allergies are, the difference between mild and serious reactions, and confidently saying the word anaphylaxis as well as the use of adrenaline auto injectors.
We talked about how to be a good friend—looking out for classmates with allergies, understanding why we don’t share food, and how simple things like handwashing, reading labels, and following “no nuts before or during school” rules can make a life-saving difference.
It was so special to walk those familiar corridors again and recognise so much that hasn’t changed over the years. A lovely reminder of how schools continue to care, nurture, and now also play a vital role in keeping children safe.
Proud to play a small part in helping the next generation understand the importance of kindness, awareness, and inclusion 💛

🌟 Community Engagement Alert! 🌟

I had a wonderful time at the Blairdardie Primary School Blether, where the school invited me to their weekly gathering of parents for an informal chat about asthma and allergies.

It was a great opportunity to share important information and answer many thoughtful questions—including how to recognise signs of an asthma attack and the best ways to provide assistance. For example, we discussed the importance of using an inhaler correctly and knowing when to call for emergency help.

Everyone left feeling empowered with knowledge and tools to support those in need.

Yesterday I had a fantastic time at Maud Resource Centreas they celebrate Mindful May 💚
Across the month, they’re hosting a brilliant range of events – there really is something for everyone! From Tai Chi, Pilates and Boccia, to cooking workshops, musical sessions for toddlers, Conversation Cafés in both Maud and New Pitsligo, a floral arrangement demo, a games afternoon at the Pavilion, and even a drop-in with me from the Asthma & Allergy Foundation. Best of all — it’s all free and completely community-focused 🙌
In just one afternoon, I had the pleasure of speaking about asthma and allergies to three different groups.
First up, I joined the “gentle-ish” gym session… and let’s just say it wasn’t quite as gentle as I expected! 🤦‍♀️ I confidently picked my weights based on colour (rookie mistake!) and quickly realised how heavy they were. I stuck with it, but as predicted by everyone there — I’m definitely feeling it today!
Next was something completely new for me — Boccia. If you’ve never seen it before, it’s well worth a shot! I had a great time, with a mix of surprisingly good shots and some absolute misfires. Asthma Bear even stepped in as judge at times 🐻⚖️
Finally, I met the young people from the after-school Lego club. I’ve said it before, but their creativity is incredible — think Lego epi-pens and Lego inhalers! I also received some lovely artwork 🧡 The group asked thoughtful, sensible questions, and it was really encouraging to hear they knew to dial 999 in an emergency.
I always love visiting Maud — such a warm, welcoming community. The Resource Centre is a real asset, creating opportunities to learn, stay active, connect with others, and support wellbeing. These are the things that truly make a difference to how we feel day to day. Thanks to everyone involved for making this happen.
