Hi Friends! After a wonderful summer break, we’re resuming our monthly lectures! We are so excited to have Ian Young as our speaker for the first lecture of the season!

Ian Young has had a lifelong interest in plants and together with his wife, Margaret, have developed a well-stocked garden in Aberdeen. Over more than 40 years, the trees and shrubs have matured and Ian has developed a rich under planting of bulbs and woodland plants which provides a progression of seasonal colour, texture and form. Most of the plants have been raised from seed.

Bulbous plants are one of his specialisms and in this lecture, he will guide us through the art and science of culturing bulbs from seed. The talk will cover bulbous species he has grown himself and thus will be suited to North-East Scotland.

In 2025, Ian and Margaret received the Sir Daniel Hall Award by the Bulb Expert Group of the Royal Horticultural Society ‘in recognition of their continued promotion of bulbs and their work to further knowledge and the global conversation about growing and conserving them’.

This lecture is a great opportunity for you to learn something new and make friends by meeting members of the FCBG community who share your interests! As usual, there will be some light refreshments provided and a chance for you to chat with the speaker at the end of the talk.

Hi Friends! Our much-loved Autumn Plant Sale is happening next Saturday on October 3rd! Come find us in the Cruickshank Botanic Garden adjacent to the Herbaceous Border and the Friends Summerhouse!

Discover a beautiful variety of plants, from herbs and houseplants to shrubs and perennials, at really great prices. Bring your family and friends along and come support an exciting local event! Please help us spread the word by sharing this post. 🪴

Visitors are very welcome to explore the garden on the day! What better way to spend your Saturday morning than witnessing the splendid shades of the changing seasons? 🍂🪾

Hi Friends! Our Autumn Plant Sale is taking place in two weeks and we need your help to make it possible!

Plant donations from your gardens will be most appreciated! We happily accept annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, alpines, vegetable seedlings, herbs and even house plants! Even if you can only supply a few plants they will be most welcome. 🪴😊

Information regarding the delivery of donated plants is provided in the poster but if you have any queries or require help, feel free to contact Stuart Wale!

We are also looking for volunteers to help out on the day of the sale (between 8.30AM and 1.00PM) to set up tables, arrange the plant donations, assist those who attend the sale to choose plants and tidy up after the sale finishes.
If you are available and willing to help at the plant sale on Saturday, October 3rd, please drop an email to Stuart Wale.

On Wednesday, we welcomed new students from the School of Biological Sciences to our annual Freshers' House Plant Giveaway! We hope you are all delighted with your new green friends! 🪴

We wish all new and returning students the very best of luck for the new semester. And if you ever need a break from your books, why not take a stroll through the beautiful Cruickshank Botanic Garden?

Thank you to our amazing volunteers for their time, the hardworking gardeners for setting everything up so well, and of course our kind members and supporters who generously donated plants for the students. ❤️

If you’re not a Fresher, don’t worry! We have our Autumn Plant Sale coming up very soon, so that will be the perfect chance for you to bring home some lovely plants! Keep an eye out for more updates on our account.

Hi Friends! We would like to share an event hosted by the Aberdeen branch of the British Cactus and Succulent Society happening this Friday, 31st July at 7.30pm!

Bill Darbon is the Chairman of the BCSS Shows Committee and has been a stalwart of the society for many years. He will be giving a talk on plants and his travel around the Western Cape of South Africa and will mainly be focusing on succulent plants of which many will be familiar to gardeners such as Mesembs, Haworthias, and Crassulas.
