Archway is a parent-led local charity based in Aberdeen providing care and support to children and adults with learning disabilities and their families.

In the 1980's we were the first carer led charity in Aberdeen to champion the provision of respite services and since then have developed into an innovative and exciting charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with learning disabilities. We remain parent led to ensure that those who use our services have a real say in how and what is delivered. Archway currently supports in the region of 200 children and adults with learning disabilities through its respite, shared and permanent care services.

What Happens in Respite… Stays in Respite!
“What did you do at Archway this time?”
“Oh… not a lot.” Hmm… we know better!
Behind that innocent answer there might have been outings, dancing, baking, crafts, karaoke, meeting friends, plenty of laughs and perhaps a little mischief along the way! But don’t worry – what happens in respite, stays in respite! And while everyone is busy having fun at Archway, we hope our parents and carers are making the most of their respite too – whether that means having their own adventures or simply getting the chance to rest, recharge and enjoy some precious time for themselves. After all, everyone deserves a break… and we have far too much fun at Archway to give away all our secrets!

Introducing the Inaugural Archway Ball
We’re so excited to announce something very special for Archway…
On Saturday 13 March 2027, the very first Archway Ball will take place at The Marcliffe Hotel & Spa, Aberdeen.
This exciting new event is being brought to life by three wonderful volunteers – Libby Munro, Claire Loggie and Ellie Bremner – who are generously giving their time, energy and enthusiasm to create an unforgettable evening in support of Archway. The Ball will bring together businesses, supporters, families and friends for a fantastic evening of celebration, entertainment and fundraising – all while helping Archway continue to support children and adults with learning disabilities and their families across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. And plans are already gathering pace! They have secured some fantastic prizes, including an incredible family holiday to Florida for our silent auction.
We’d now love to hear from businesses and individuals who would like to be part of this very special first event. We’re looking for event sponsors, raffle prizes and silent auction donations – whether that’s a product, service, experience or something completely unique.
General ticket sales open 26 October 2026, with lots more exciting details to come.

Respite Break… Will Travel!
A respite break at Archway Dyce certainly doesn’t mean staying in! With our wheelchair-adapted minibus, we can get out and about and make the most of all the wonderful places on our doorstep. Ross, Ose and Claire recently enjoyed a trip to Easter Anguston Farm, where there was plenty to see and explore. But we think it’s fair to say there was one clear favourite… the roundabout was a BIG hit! Days out like these are such an important part of respite at Archway – new experiences, fresh air, lots of fun and, most importantly, happy memories made together. Thanks to all our supporters who make activities like this possible.

A Fond Farewell to Joan
There were smiles, memories and no doubt a few tears at our Huxterstone Supported Living Service last week as residents, families and staff said a very fond farewell to Joan, who has retired after 18 years as part of the Archway family. Over all those years, she has cared for and supported so many people, always showing the kindness, patience and genuine care that has meant so much to residents, families and colleagues alike. To mark her final day, everyone enjoyed a special celebratory tea together. Joan, after all those years of looking after everyone else, it’s time to enjoy some well-earned time for yourself!

Holiday Fun
Anest House residents Morag and Val had a fantastic time at Betty’s Place, our wheelchair-adapted holiday home. A big thank you to the staff who went along with them and helped make the trip so much fun. Valerie enjoyed coffee, strawberries and ice cream at Wester Hardmuir Fruit Farm, they visited Cawdor Castle and gardens, with a little trip to the arcade on site afterwards for some 2p machine fun.
They had a shopping trip to Inverness where both ladies had their nails done and loved it and had a lovely dinner at an Indian restaurant Both ladies had a great time and made some lovely holiday memories.- and both already want to go back!

A Huge Thank You!
What a fantastic day at our EnQuest Bake Sale yesterday - we’re absolutely delighted to have raised an amazing £1,035 for Archway! A heartfelt thank you to everyone at EnQuest for making us so welcome and, once again, being incredibly generous in your support. And a very special thank you to our wonderful bakers and helpers - we simply couldn’t do it without you! Your delicious bakes, time and enthusiasm made the day such a success. £1,035 raised for Archway - amazing! Thank you all so much.

Happy Birthday, Talia!
There were plenty of smiles at Anest House recently as Talia celebrated her first birthday since moving into her new home – and what a happy day it was!
Surrounded by family and her housemates, there was lots of fun, laughter and, of course, birthday celebrations.
It’s wonderful to see Talia settled so well, enjoying life in her new home and having fun with her housemates – and we’re sure there will be many more special occasions and happy memories to come.
