Archway

Archway Archway is a parent-led local charity based in Aberdeen providing care and support to children and adults with learning disabilities and their families.

In the 1980's we were the first carer led charity in Aberdeen to champion the provision of respite services and since then have developed into an innovative and exciting charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with learning disabilities. We remain parent led to ensure that those who use our services have a real say in how and what is delivered. Archway currently supports in t

he region of 200 children and adults with learning disabilities through its respite, shared and permanent care services.

A Huge Thank You to CNOOC
We are incredibly grateful to CNOOC for their wonderful donation of £20,000, which will enable us to create a fantastic new sensory bathroom at our Dyce respite service. This amazing support will make a real difference to the children and adults who use the service — providing a calming, engaging and therapeutic space tailored to their individual needs. For many of the people we support, sensory experiences can play an important role in reducing anxiety, promoting relaxation and improving wellbeing. This new facility will create opportunities for comfort, enjoyment and positive experiences for years to come. As a local charity, support like this means so much to us and to the families who rely on our services every day. Thank you once again to everyone at CNOOC for your generosity, kindness and belief in what we do.

A Fantastic First Café Bridge Event!
We were delighted that Aberdeen Bridge Club chose Archway to benefit from their very first Café Bridge event a couple of weeks ago. The event, which started and finished at Aberdeen Bridge Club on Rubislaw Terrace, attracted over 100 players who enjoyed bridge across a variety of venues including The Glentanar, The Justice Mill and Food Story.
A wonderful day was had by all, full of friendly competition, community spirit and plenty of laughter. A huge thank you to Carole Lovie for organising such a fantastic event, and to everyone who took part for their generosity in donating and buying raffle tickets — helping to raise an amazing £700+ for Archway. Support like this really does make a difference and is so very much appreciated. Aberdeen Bridge Club iainmckenna

Fitting It All In….
How much can we fit into just one respite break? Just see for yourself! From outings and activities to laughter, friendship and lots of special moments — there’s never a dull moment at Archway. Creating happy memories, building confidence and helping everyone get the most out of life — that’s what respite is all about. It makes us tired just looking at everything packed into one break… but the smiles say it all. Huge thanks to our staff and support who make this possible.

A Game To Remember
Last Tuesday there was great excitement at Archway when Kenny Greig from TEXO came along to Westburn Road to meet some of our residents — and brought with him a very special surprise… 4 tickets to the Aberdeen game at Pittodrie that very night, along with some fantastic merchandise! As if that wasn’t enough, a further 2 tickets were kindly donated by AFab and shared with Archway Dyce — making sure even more people could be part of the experience. A great time was had by all. A huge thank you to everyone involved — including Paul Simpson from Subsea 7, who reached out to his contacts after speaking with Carolyn and hearing her wish to go to an Aberdeen game. The kindness shown by everyone involved means so much and is a powerful reminder of the difference small acts of generosity can make.

How Does Your Garden Grow?
Beth is loving the garden at our new supported living service. Just being able to get outside, enjoy the sunshine and tend the plants is giving Beth green fingers and we can’t wait to see how her garden grows! Life at Archway is never dull and we try to encourage new opportunities and activities whenever we can so everyone we support gets the most out of life.

We love it when staff capture some of the magic moments that happen on respite breaks at Archway. Thanks to Becca at Two Mile Cross for this one. As we head into the weekend, we’re also glad to give parents and carers the opportunity to rest, recharge, and enjoy a well earned break!

Ride The North for Archway
Looking to push yourself, set a goal and achieve something incredible this summer? We are looking for some brave cyclists to take on the iconic Ride The North Tour of Angus 2026 on Saturday 29 August. With stunning 110k and 150k routes through the Angus hills and glens — it starts and finishes at the spectacular Glamis Castle. This is more than just a ride… it’s a chance to challenge yourself, test your limits and cross that finish line with a real sense of achievement. We have 5 charity places for Archway, offering FREE entry when you pledge to raise a minimum of £150. And every mile you ride will make a difference — helping support children and adults with learning disabilities and their families.

Smiles, Support & Special Moments at Archway Dyce
Our respite breaks at Archway Dyce are about so much more than time away… They’re filled with smiles, fun activities, outings and time with friends.
They’re about building confidence, encouraging independence, and creating moments that matter. And just as importantly, they provide a much-needed break for parents and carers — time to rest, recharge and know their loved one is happy, safe and thriving.
Because at Archway, it’s not just care… it’s about helping everyone get the most out of life
