ICYMI - We have a brand-new music project here at shmu, Amplify! 🎶

Amplify is an opportunity for 14–17 year-olds in Aberdeen’s Priority Neighbourhoods (Woodside, Tillydrone, Middlefield, Northfield, Torry, Cummings Park, Mastrick and Seaton.) to create music with help from experienced tutors.

The first session is on Tuesday 27th of October from 5pm-6.30pm and the project runs for 8 weeks.

A huge congratulations to our Finance Support Worker, Kirsty and Daryll who tied the knot at the end of September! Of course, we marked the occasion within shmu by surprising Kirsty with desk decorations and a confetti toss - much to Kirsty's joy as she innocently exited the lift with her lunch in hand!

Stigma film

As part of The Poverty Alliance, Challenge Poverty Week, this short film explores the stigma surrounding poverty and the impact it can have on people’s lives.

Through the voices of people with lived experience, we explore how issues including homelessness, addiction, mental health and social media can be interconnected, while challenging some of the assumptions and stereotypes surrounding poverty.

Challenge Poverty week, event highlights!

We’re taking a look back at Monday’s Fairer Aberdeen Fund event for The Poverty Alliance Challenge Poverty Week, where people came together to share experiences, have conversations and shine a light on the realities of poverty.

There were lots of great conversations, ideas and connections throughout the event, and it was fantastic to see so many people coming along and getting involved.

A big thank you to everyone who came along, shared their stories and helped make the day so special.

shmu IN FOCUS: Stigma and Poverty

As part of The Poverty Alliance Challenge Poverty Week, we’re shining a spotlight on Aberdeen and the experiences of people living with poverty.

Poverty is about more than money. Stigma can have a profound impact on people’s lives -affecting confidence, opportunities, wellbeing and how people are seen and treated by others.

At shmu, we want to see a just and fair society for all. Through our community media platforms, we hope to share people’s experiences, challenge stigma and encourage a compassionate conversation around poverty.

By listening to lived experiences and creating space for different voices, we can help build understanding, challenge assumptions and work towards lasting change.

Together, we can challenge poverty and help create a fairer society for everyone.
