It might be heavily raining this week... hello, Scottish summer! But look at this beautiful rainbow from yesterday. A little reminder that there's always something beautiful after the storm. Did you see yesterday's double rainbow? Send us your pix in the comments.

We are delighted to be involved with Light the Blue again this year as part of the Youth Takeover Day on Saturday 13th June 2026!

Last year, our Youth Media participants took over shmuFM all day with a live broadcast from the Music Hall - we are delighted to be doing the same again this year!

BFI Film Screenings are also back - screenings of short films created by young filmmakers will be played on loop throughout the afternoon from 1 – 4.30pm in Big Sky Studio within the Music Hall.

Light the Blue is Aberdeen Performing Arts festival for and by young people, returning 2nd – 14th June 2026 for a fortnight of performances, opportunities and events inspired by the theme looking forward / looking back.

This year’s festival invites over 1000 young and professional artists, school pupils and early career creatives from across Scotland to imagine the shape of the world in time to come or reflect on memories and moments that have shaped who they are today. Light the Blue will celebrate the voices of the next generation and inspire audiences in theatres, shopping centres, gardens, playgrounds and unexpected spaces across Aberdeen.

We had an incredible evening on Friday celebrating our shmu volunteers and those who make such a positive difference across Aberdeen.

The nominations for the Angie Joss Memorial Award showcased the remarkable dedication, compassion, and commitment that exists within our communities.

One thing became very clear: Aberdeen is home to so many people who work tirelessly to support others and make their communities better places to live.

Today, we're delighted to share Kirstylee's full nomination film, highlighting the incredible work she does and the positive impact volunteering can have - not only on those being supported, but on volunteers themselves.

Thank you, Kirstylee, for everything you do, and thank you to all of our nominees for the difference you make every day.

Tonight, we celebrate the incredible volunteers who give their time, talents and enthusiasm to support shmu and the communities we work alongside.

Through their dedication, they help amplify local voices, strengthen community connections and keep local stories at the heart of what we do. We are hugely grateful for everything our volunteers contribute and the difference they make every day.

As part of this evening's celebrations, we are also proud to present the Angie Joss Memorial Award – recognising the passion, kindness and community spirit that Angie embodied and which continues to inspire others.

We look forward to celebrating all of our volunteers tonight and recognising the impact they have across our communities.

Good luck to Somah, Kirstylee, Bibs and Susan - we're all cheering you on!
