We’re delighted to welcome Kelly M Anderson and Caroline Laurenson to the TechFest team.

With more than 40 years of inspiring people across Scotland through STEM, TechFest is entering an exciting new chapter and we’re thrilled to have two passionate and experienced leaders helping us shape what comes next.

Kelly joins us as Interim Managing Director, bringing two decades of experience across the charity and education sectors. Driven by a career-long commitment for widening access to education, Kelly is particularly excited about helping more children and young people across Scotland discover what they’re capable of.

Joining us as Deputy Managing Director, Caroline brings more than 20 years’ experience across the energy and technology sectors, alongside a long-standing commitment to STEM, innovation and education. A passionate advocate for education and knowledge sharing, Caroline loves to mentor aspiring entrepreneurs and innovators.

Both share our belief that where you start in life shouldn’t determine where you can go - and that every child in Scotland should have the chance to experience the fun and excitement of STEM.

⏳ What a day at the Ri Youth Summit in Scotland!

Today marked the second Royal Institution Youth Summit in Scotland, and we were delighted to welcome young people from five schools across Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire for a fascinating day of discussion, debate and exploration around the theme of Time.

Working with the Royal Institution, TechFest brought together 16–18 year-olds from across STEM, social sciences and humanities to explore one of the most fundamental and fascinating questions we can ask: what is time, and how does it shape our world and society?

Throughout the day, students shared ideas, challenged perspectives, considered different viewpoints and confidently debated some big questions.

The discussions and ideas from todays Youth Summit will help inform the Royal Institution’s 2026 Christmas Lectures, giving our young people the opportunity to contribute to a much wider conversation.

A huge thank you to the Royal Institution for working with us to bring the Youth Summit to Scotland again, and to North East Scotland College for hosting us at the Energy Transition Skills Hub for helping make the day such a success.

Most importantly, a massive well done to all the pupils and teachers who took part. 👏

🔧👷‍♀️ Engineer’n’ Our Lives is back! 👷‍♂️✨

Thanks to funding from CNOOC International, we’re delighted to be bringing our EOL programme to Culter Primary School!

Over the next two weeks, TechFest staff and teachers will bring hands-on engineering activities into the classroom, helping pupils discover how the skills they learn at school are used by engineers every day.

From raw materials to everyday products, pupils will explore the engineering process and discover how engineers help shape the world around us.

Materials + Engineers = Products! 🔬🛠️

We can’t wait to see what the pupils create! 🚀

TechFest are delighted to celebrate their continued partnership with Serica Energy

A key highlight of this partnership is our Mathematics Masterclasses programme for secondary school students across the region. These sessions are designed to encourage, inspire and engage young people in the art and practice of mathematics.

We’re also delighted that Serica Energy have come on board to support another TechFest programme, STEM in the Pipeline. This annual educational project challenges S6 pupils, to solve realistic problems faced by the energy industry, giving them the opportunity to apply their STEM knowledge to real-world challenges.

We’re incredibly grateful for Serica Energy’s continued support and look forward to working together to inspire curiosity, creativity and innovation in young people across the region.

Could your pupils help shape the conversation around one of science’s big questions?

🚨 Final places available! Registration closes on Wednesday 23rd September.

TechFest is delighted to be working with the Royal Institution (Ri) to bring the Ri Youth Summit to Scotland for young people aged 16–18.

Open to pupils across STEM, social sciences and humanities, the Summit will bring young people together to explore and debate a major scientific topic and its impact on society.

The day supports Curriculum for Excellence, giving pupils the opportunity to develop critical thinking, communication and evaluation skills, consider different perspectives and confidently express their own views.

Most importantly, their voices will be heard – discussions from the Youth Summits will help inform the Royal Institution’s 2026 Christmas Lectures.
