“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”

Our recent ICAWW General Meeting was such a lovely afternoon. It was great to see so many women come together to catch up, learn from one another, and simply enjoy being in each other’s company.

We were delighted to welcome Mrs Bertha, Founder of African Women Group Scotland (AWGS) African Women's Group Scotland, as our guest speaker. She shared practical advice on childcare in Aberdeen and encouraged us to keep supporting one another as mothers, sisters and women living away from home. It was an engaging session that gave everyone something to reflect on.

Meetings like this remind us why ICAWW exists. It’s not just about coming together once in two months; it’s about building friendships, sharing experiences, and creating a community where every woman feels welcomed and supported.

A big thank you to Mrs Bertha for giving her time and sharing her knowledge, and thank you to every member who came along and helped make the afternoon so special.

Here’s to many more meaningful conversations, stronger friendships, and the sisterhood that continues to bring us together.

Happy Mother’s Day, dear mothers.

Today we celebrate the women whose love holds everything together.
The ones who give endlessly, stand strong through every season, and carry their families with quiet courage and grace.

A mother’s love is often found in the small things, the early mornings, the late nights, the prayers whispered, the sacrifices made without recognition. Yet those small things shape homes, families, and communities.

To every mother in our community, thank you for the care, strength, wisdom, and warmth you bring into our lives.

You are deeply appreciated. Today and always.

Motherhood is love in action, in the sleepless nights, the silent prayers, the sacrifices, the laughter, and the strength you show every day.

What an incredible and inspiring day we, the Igbo Community Aberdeen Women (ICAWW), had on Saturday, 8th November 2025, at our General Meeting and Health Parley: “Women’s Voices.”

In partnership with Public Health Scotland and Grampian Sexual Health Services, the event brought together our vibrant community of women to discuss contraception, menopause, access to care, and the growing issue of hormone hesitancy.

We were honoured to welcome our distinguished guest consultants:
👩🏾‍⚕️ Dr. Dianna Reed – Consultant in Sexual & Reproductive Health
👩🏾‍⚕️ Dr. Danielle Brawley – Consultant in Sexual Health & HIV; Co-Chair of SHPN
👩🏾‍⚕️ Dr. Helena Young – Specialty Registrar, Community SRH
👩🏾‍⚕️ Dr. Carrie Hazel – Specialty Doctor, Sexual & Reproductive Health

The discussions were rich, the atmosphere warm, and the feedback deeply encouraging. Together, we created a safe space where women’s voices were truly heard and valued, shaping conversations that will inform and strengthen women’s health in our community and across Scotland.

A huge thank you to our ICAWW Executive Committee: Dr. Jennifer Anyika, Mrs. Igho Ofordile, Mrs. Nneka Onu, and Mrs. Chineye Unachukwu, all Committee Leaders; our amazing members (without whom there would be no community); and every woman who showed up with openness, courage, and community spirit.
