Nuclear power stations are needed for two main reasons. First as a by-product of the nuclear arms race, which has just resumed with the UK's participation.

Secondly to stabilise the power grid based on the renewables. Yes, Scotland produces more energy than it's needed locally and because of that became even more dependent on England as the energy receiver and the part of the common grid with the energy resources independent from the weather.

In the case of Scotland the only reasonable energy policy should be based on the natural gas we have more than enough for the Scottish purposes. Renewables and nuclear power are just two sides of the same coin, extremely unfavorable for Scotland and Scottish energy balance.

Yet, despite pledges of cooperation among the mainstream pro-independence parties of Scotland, Wales, and Ireland, the British strategy regarding these nations’ aspirations remains unchanged: divide and… and let them think they are in charge of something.

It seems like the Irish have till now believed that they have quite clear and obligatory rules agreed and signed in the Good Friday Agreement and now they are facing the reality of being dependent on Westminster's mood.

Everyone should remember, when Westminster is saying that we've got the right to do something that only means that Westminster is saying, not that it's actually recognising nor accepting any our rights.

“The Bombing of Pan Am 103” is another significant movie tribute to Scotland and the Scottish people. Not a single episode goes by without praising the residents of Lockerbie for the compassionate support they offered to the family members of those who had died in the air crash. Scottish reliability, being keen on clear rules and even well-known stubbornness, are portrayed as crucial elements of the investigation, quite annoying for the FBI and CIA.

What’s also interesting, the UK is virtually absent in the series. Aside from a fleeting reference to Mrs. Thatcher and a brief mention of jurisdictional disputes between the Police Scotland, Metropolitan Police and MI5 / MI6, the show consistently treats Scotland as an independent nation, even though, in the late 1980s and early 1990s it was long before devolution.

“Scottish soil—Scottish evidence—Scottish procedure”, this line from one of the scenes is crucial to remind the viewers that Scotland is a country not a county.

Of course, a sceptic might argue that this is a clever way to downplay Britain’s share of responsibility for Pan Am 103 crash and the doubts surrounding the investigation. The series completely omits the independent inquiry led by Jim Swire on behalf of some of the victims' families, as well as the hypothesis that the bomb was dropped at Heathrow rather than in Malta. Well, but this is just a mainstream series, Netflix and BBC production, after all...

And what’s worth noting, even the English actors delivered their lines with a beautiful Scottish accent...
