This week we want to take a moment to celebrate some of the incredible people who give their time, skills and energy to support our community.

Every volunteer brings something unique to Your Love Rara. At Love Rara, we are passionate about supporting our local community and helping families whenever we can.

Every week, we have a food bank available for anyone who may need a little extra support. Whether it's for yourself or your family, please know that you are always welcome.

We believe that no one should have to struggle alone, and we are proud to be able to share this support with our community. 💕

⭐️ VOLUNTEERS’ WEEK SPOTLIGHT ⭐️

Sometimes we don’t think our young people realise just how much of a difference they make.

Every hour they give, every activity they help with, every child they encourage and every smile they share helps keep opportunities accessible for local families.

Many of our young volunteers started by simply wanting to help. Today they are role models, mentors and an important part of our community.

The time they give allows us to keep sessions affordable, create new opportunities and ensure more children can access activities, support and experiences that help them thrive.

Volunteering isn’t just about helping Your Love Rara. It’s about helping every child who walks through our doors.

This Volunteers’ Week, we want to say a huge thank you to all of our young volunteers. Your kindness, commitment and enthusiasm make a bigger difference than you probably realise.

You are helping build confidence, friendships, memories and opportunities for the next generation.

⭐️VOLUNTEERS’ WEEK ⭐️

Did you know we currently have a waiting list of people wanting to volunteer with Your Love Rara?

Many people are surprised when we tell them that volunteers actually cost money.

Before someone can begin volunteering, we need to provide uniforms, training, resources and ongoing support to ensure they have a positive experience and can safely support our community.

For just £60, you can sponsor a volunteer and help us welcome another amazing person into our team.

Your sponsorship helps cover:
⭐ Volunteer uniform
⭐ Training and development
⭐ Resources and equipment
⭐ Opportunities for young people to gain valuable skills and experience

Since January 2026, our volunteers have contributed an incredible 4,627 volunteer hours supporting children, young people and families across Aberdeen.

From wellbeing sessions and holiday camps to fundraising events and helping transform our new Beach Esplanade home, our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do.

I've just realised I've been remiss and not posted my own recap of last week's storytelling workshop for The Grampian Association of Storytellers - GAS .

Trina and I were met with a wonderful group of Storytellers and performers at Your Love Rara Sc053673 's building (shout out to Your Love Rara for their wonderful hospitality).

We began with an ice-breaker in which we threw wool at each other and created a web -- what a wonderful metaphor for how we are all connected! I then told a short story and talked about breaking narrative down to its bare bones. Participants then did the same with a selection of short stories. Shout out to Pro Lingua's Nasreddin Hodja book, which was by far the favourite. Then we made a memory device. Most people chose to makena story stick, which is an activity I learnt from Dundee's Blether Tay-Gither.

After the break, Trina led us through voice and body warm ups before giving us some performance tips. Finally, we got to listen to everybody's fantastic stories.

⭐️⭐️VOLUNTEERS’ WEEK 2026⭐️⭐️

Sometimes it’s easy to focus on what still needs done, but this Volunteers’ Week we’ve taken a moment to look back at what our community has achieved together.

Since January 2026, volunteers have contributed an incredible 4,627 hours to Your Love Rara.

That’s 4,627 hours spent supporting children, young people and families across Aberdeen.

Those hours include:
• Running wellbeing, creative and community sessions
• Supporting holiday camps and events
• Helping in our food support initiatives
• Maintaining and developing our new venue
• Fundraising and community engagement
• Supporting our café and community projects
• Mentoring and encouraging other young volunteers

When we moved into our new Beach Esplanade home, more than 35 people volunteered over 10 hours each to help us clear, clean, transport, build and prepare the space. Without that support, our move simply would not have been possible.

Our volunteers also completed an incredible 40-hour Dance-a-thon, with 17 volunteers raising funds and awareness while showing exactly what community spirit looks like.

What makes us especially proud is that many of our volunteers are young people. Through our Saltire Award programme, they are gaining confidence, skills, experience and friendships while making a genuine difference to others.

To put 4,627 hours into perspective, that’s the equivalent of more than 115 full-time working weeks donated back into the community.

Every wall painted, every child encouraged, every activity delivered, every cup of tea made, every donation collected and every smile shared has been made possible because people chose to give their time.

To every volunteer, supporter, parent, trustee, sponsor and community member who has stood beside us this year – thank you.

You are helping us create more than a venue. You are helping us build a community where children, young people and families feel welcomed, supported and valued.

Here’s to the next 4,627 hours.
